What is your favourite SCI FI TV show?
VOTE - TV Cup 2011 - round 1 - SCI FI
Ok we have ten competitors for the crown of TV God 2011.
The rules are as follows:
Each week I provide a category, for example Sci fi shows
Each person then pm's me their nomination that they wish to choose for that subject within 48 hours (send me your top 3 choices in the event of others picking the same choices, it will be done on a first come first served basis, I will choose last to ensure fairness on my part and also making it harder for me
I then create a poll that goes live on the site for 5 days where people can vote for which of the ten is their favourite (names not mentioned of who picked them so to avoid favouritism). 10 points for the winner, 9 for second and so on.
Each week I'll then post the table and then the next catergory.
For the first category I've chosen...Sci Fi
(I will try and have a wide range of choices to make it fair for all)
The choices made are as follows:
Dr Who
Battlestar Galactica
Star Trek Next Generation
X Files
Red Dwarf
Star Trek (the original series)
Taken
Heroes
The Twilight Zone
Lost

I voted for Red Dwarf.
If it hadn't been for the disappointing recent seasons it would definitely have been Heroes.

Did you not see the series including Kochanski or the Back to Earth 'specials'?
Re: VOTE - TV Cup 2011 - round 1 - SCI FI
I am not saying what I nominated bu I am surprised that Red Dwarf is doing so well - its a sitcom up against some shows that changed history.
For example, Start Trek broke social taboos in having the first inter racial kiss.
(not to mention Kirk also copping off with alien women!)
BG was an allegory for the gulf war.
Dr Who changed the way people looked at time.
The Twilight Zone was voted the greatest ever Sci Fi show by the NY Times
The next Gen was the first show to take politics into space.
The X Files was the first show to have an attractive ginger in it.

Yes Hero but hoe long was it on for before it went downhill? Heroes has so much promise but failed to deliver. The first series was fantastic...the seconds series was good...third series was passable and the fourth was awful.

I voted for my own shows, which was Hereos purely on the fact that I have never watched any of the others

The first inter racial kiss according to William Shatner in his book Star Trek Memories was not aired the production company would not allow it.
The scene was filmed twice once with them kissing and again with them not kissing and it was the latter that was aired
Honestly I'm not a anorak

The poll isn't for the sci-fi show that changed the world though, it is for the best sci-fi show. What constitutes best for me is whether or not I enjoy it, I would guess that is the criteria people who voted for Red Dwarf would use. The Back to Earth special was atrocious though!

All three of my choices are on there, so I don't have a clue which one is mine. I suppose I'll just have to vote for my favourite 8)

Checked up Red Dwarf on Wiki last night and it mentions that they’re doing another series.
Please God let it be back on form and back to the five of Lister, Rimmer, Kryten, Cat and Holly. That was for me when it worked best.

Oh and I would just like to point out here that Yes it may be a Sitcom, but it is a Sci-Fi Sitcom. So it is a perfectly valid option.
Re: VOTE - TV Cup 2011 - round 1 - SCI FI
I never said it wasnt valid - just surprised it was doing so well!
I dont think I saw it past series 5/6 but used to enjoy it myself - just wouldnt have thought to put it in my top 10 or anywhere near it to be honest.
The person who nominated has picked well.

Why is Stargate Universe not on the list? The reason I ask is because it is one of the few SCI FI shows I know. Oh and it is bloody good.

Hi AquaArab,
Simply because no-one picked it to represent them in the round. Not one I've watched myself but I know of a few people that really enjoy it.

Why can't this one run in parallel with the Music Cup?

Re: VOTE - TV Cup 2011 - round 1 - SCI FI
The reason we are not running in parallel is that the music round kind of took precedent over the TV cup (ie featuring on the portal etc) - people were missing it etc.
So, whilst Hero is on a break, We can have a short 8 week TV cup.
