Re: Greek Mythology XV
From Welsh legends
7 Merlin.
Slightly cheating. Just have him stand over a ruck mutter a few words then turn round and hand the scrummy the ball. Would be similar to the flanker combination of Hill and Back I suppose.

I did type his proper name Myrddin to start but then realised you wouldn't necessarily make the connection. However Gwydion at 10 is another magician who made a living girl out of flowers, turned people into eagles so they could come back to life, made a spear that could pass through boulders killing people hiding behind them etc.

Plenty of leaders in there beshocked, would it lead to a divided dressing room I wonder...

So what are you saying, they would only gain Pyrrhic victories?

Funnily enough I wouldn't, having only visited Wales twice my Welsh isn't really up to scratch I'm afriad.
However Gwydion at 10 is another magician who made a living girl out of flowers, turned people into eagles so they could come back to life, made a spear that could pass through boulders killing people hiding behind them etc. .
Handy.

Re: Greek Mythology XV
Bathman it's always great to have leaders. True though I am sure some of them wouldn't get along:
Marcellus and Archimedes, Hannibal and Scipio, Caesar and Pompeius, Spartacus and the Romans. Probably more likely to kill each other than beat the opposition!
Maybe someone could come up with a Roman XV vs Rest of the classics world XV?

Re: Greek Mythology XV
Beshocked, suprised you've got Cicero as defence coach. Would have gone for Vercingetorix myself, held back Caesar himself for a fair while!

Re: Greek Mythology XV
Carpe Diem Vercingetorix would probably be more suited to the pack surely? Big 2nd row?
Cicero is in there for his brains. Plus he was an excellent orator. Would give a great team talk. Was a defence lawyer too at the beginning of his career.

Re: Greek Mythology XV
Good point. Definitely room for him in the SR or even marauding from the back row, would have to remove the chains first though...

Re: Greek Mythology XV
Yup a 2nd row partnership of Vercingetorix and Spartacus would be pretty ruthless. Not sure how effective they would be in the lineout but would certainly add grunt to the scrum.
I suppose with so many leaders lineouts wouldn't be a problem.
Very nice Tyrcoes Osprey. Agree looks like a strong rest of the world side.

Wouldn't be too confident of Asterix and Obelix passing a drugs test mind.

Re: Greek Mythology XV
Good teams Tycroes.
I can't imagine anyone would be able to stop Obelix from 5m out!
Although once the romans got their tortoise/rolling maul going, that would be pretty effective too!

Poorfour wrote:They've also got to have someone to play against. How about a Norse XV? I've cheated a little by assembling it mostly from Aesir, but they're more comparable to Greek heroes than to the gods.
15 Tyr – can always be trusted to put his body on the line
14 Frey – wouldn’t want to ruin his good looks in the forwards
13 Odur – Sun god, apt to go missing but can turn up the heat when needed
12 Heimdall – gatekeeper of Asgard, the obvious choice for a defensive captain
11 Thialfi – his name is Norse for “thought”
10 Baldur – untouchable at 10
9 Mimir – the smartest of the gods, even after being decapitated
1 Hoenir – not the brightest god, but physically imposing
2 Vidar – I’m assuming they’d run a silent lineout. The enforcer in the pack
3 Niord – you might as well try to push back the sea
4 Thor – has to be in the team, despite disciplinary problems
5 Siegfried – dragonslayer and the son of a Valkyrie
6 Odin – Almost as tricky as his blood brother at 7
7 Loki – Really ought to be playing blindside, but then where would you put Odin?
8 Beowulf – the edda telling of his performance in the inaugural RWC is sadly lost to us.
Loki is Odin's son, not his brother.
Thank you very much Marvel Comics!

Mickado if we are being pedantic then Loki's real father is Laufey.

Where is the biggest badass of the Iliad, Diomedes? Athenae should be defense coach, that's her specialty. Apollo as kicking coach

Only in the comics. In most versions of the actual mythology, Loki is a giant who becomes Odin's blood brother.
