Funny thing: I am currently in the US, living in northern NJ and working with a number of people from New York City. Almost no one has heard of Fairytale of New York. And absolutely no one considers it a seminal Christmas song. Odd that, eh?

We went into the City on Sunday. Great day to just walk around NYC and take everything in. Hanukkah starts tonight which is big in New York and Christmas over the weekend. Great, great, great time of year. My best to everyone.........

A number of people in the office have Giants-Jets tickets. Battle lines have been drawn. Its real funny stuff actually. Everyone else in the area will be watching on TV.

I always found it weird how New Yorkers tend to hate New Jersey yet two of their biggest sports teams are based there. If you don't know about what's going on with Giants and Jets, the Jets coach is this trash talking guy( will we call him Warren Gatland) and the Giants Coach is essentially Declan Kidney.


One Quarterback is like ROG, acheived a lot but not really appreciated by the people(Giants QB). The other is Dan Parks. Has a tendency to do the dumbest things but his team win in spite of him.

Yeah, its a strange love-hate thing between New Yorkers and Jersey folk.

I think you described the coaches and quartebacks real well. Except I would add the Jets coach (Warren Gatland) actually looks a lot like Scott Johnson (ie, not the most stunning example of Homo Sapiens Sapiens).

Currently 10°C and rain. Shoite. Forecast for Sunday is 0 and ice.

Good comparisons of ROG and Eli Manning. Rex Ryan is like Gatland tho, shooting his mouth off then getting on his face.

Wellington's tourism slogan "You can't beat Wellington on a good day" is rather apt I've always thought.

We won't talk about the ratio of good days to stormy windy ones though eh

Growing up in Marlborough meant lots of days where you could see the Southerly storm running up the far side of the Kaikouras, into Cook Strait and straight into Wellington. Usually missing us in sunny wine country completely

White Christmases rock. I´m off skiing in the Alps.

Sunny new years on the other hand are way better than winter ones. Outdoor concerts, a bit of surfing to bring in the new year - your clothing depends on how much you´ve drunk.

On a sad note, sorry to hear another cluster of earthquakes, with the strongest measuring 6.0, hit Christchurch again. Although there were a few injuries, thankfully nobody was killed. That in large part was due to the CBD still being cordoned off.
