Scarlets Remaining Fixtures Empty Scarlets Remaining Fixtures

Post by red_stag Mon 19 Dec 2011, 1:03 pm

A few Scarlet related questions:

1 - If Scarlets win their next two matches could they go through as a best runner up.

2 - Do people think that its likely?

They had two very good wins against Saints and Castres before twice running Munster very close and will feel miffed not to have done effort to win either game. Is that it for them? I know Munster could lose against Castres at home but assuming they don't is there still a chance to progress for the Welshmen?

Geoff - is that unlikely that they'll win both games or unlikely that will be enough?

Personally I dont think they'll beat Castres away, Northampton at Parc Y Scarlets is more difficult, could go either way.

Unlikely they will win both games.

Sainst at home and Castres away.

My gut feeling is they are not good enough to win both.

I think they may beat Castres but lose to Saints.

Well the answer to Q1 is it's possible but as they are on 11 points and there are two teams lying second with 12 and one with 13 for Q2 the answer is it's very unlikely .

They will need one possibly two TBP to stand a chance , not impossible as Castres are certainly disinterested and Northampton are out but boggy January pitches will not help I'd say very long odds against and probably the Amlin is the best that can e hoped for

Q1 - yes, but it is very difficult, Quins getting the win away yesterday really hurt our chances there.

Q2 - it's unlikely, but as it's the Scarlets, anything is possible. I actually think the away game is going to be a slightly easier one. Saints are going to be all out looking for revenge. Two huge performances are needed.

If we do fail to get through to the QF then I would hope for an Amlin spot.

I think your last wish should come true.

I can't believe the 2nd team in Leinster's group will get more than 16 points and even that is pushing it.

There have been more and more away wins as the tournament progresses...

Scarlets looked good, not good enough, but very good in Thormond Park yesterday...

I think it depends how seriously Saints and Castres take the competition now. Both will now likely switch focus to their domestic leagues so Scarlets can exploit this.

Scarlets can still play to get into the Amlin.

Could someone clarify something for me.

If Munster match Scarlets result against the Saints will that mean Munster will have won the group?

I think so Munster. They are 5 points clear at the minute and have the head to head over Scarlets.

I dont think Scarlets will win away in france.

Currently:
Munster 16
Scarlets 11

What we could see:
Munster 20 (Munster beat Castres without scoring 3 tries)
Scarlets 16 (Scarlets beat Saints scoring 4 tries)

And finallly:
Scarlets 21 (Scarlets beat Castres scoring 4 tries)
Munster 20 (Munster lose to Northampton by 8)

That's what I thought.

So if Munster match Scarlets result against Northampton they can't be overtaken at the top on points and at worst would win the group by virtue of a better head to head against the Scarlets.
