The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the wedding pictures of Father Christmas, Sean Lamont and Paddy Wallace above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Here's a question. When did Munster stop being a team liked by neutrals.
Most neutrals now don't like Munster but I remember everyone was delighted when we won it in 2006 and I got the impression we were popular before that .

Not sure you want answers to that question Stag!
Success breeds resentment I guess.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Personally I think the moment we turned down the shot at goal against Toulouse in the last minute in order to set up a few more series of pick, drive and seal, turned the neutrals against us.

I still love you guys, but here's my take on it. It's their style of play, for only so long can a team be liked when they grind out wins. Nobody liked Leicester when they were at the height of it, but they respected them. Munster had a great underdog story which people loved, but when they started to become successful with it over a period then people decided they were no longer the underdog. Much easier to like a team with a nice style (Scarlets, Clermont, Toulouse) successful or not, than a team that grinds out wins (Sarries, Munster, Leicester). That's how i see it anyway.

Guys I know we joke around quite a bit on these pages, but something was brought to my attention last night. And for perhaps the only time I'd like to raise a serious issue which everyone needs to be aware of.

Just been confirmed that I'm off to Toulouse v Connacht and Northampton v Munster as part of work. It was completley dependent on the dates and both are on Saturdays!!!!!
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Mick - its true that we don't really do style as a rule.
For example we have won every single match we've played in the Heineken Cup this season. No other team has been as successful as us . . . . . . .however of the 6 pool leaders we have scored the fewest tries. In fact Northampton, Castres and Scarlets have all scored more tries than us.
And despite winning every match our points difference is a mere +14 .

Stag, you should be glad that you are in pole position in the group. That you have had to grind out each win is commendable. I wouldn't worry about the lack of tries at this stage. It hasn't been pretty but I will always respect the way they continue to do it.

Willy, I cannae look at YT video’s in work. It’s not an IT thing, it’s a shoulder surfing boss thing.
Fair play to you on the old trips stag, that’s a quality pair of matches to go to, pity both Irish teams will lose
Yeah stag, looking at the pool leaders, it does support the view that Munster are shove-it-up-yer-jumper-merchants and that’s not going to win many fans. But sure Munster operate best when they’ve a chip on their shoulder. Personally I would prefer if they lost that, there’s only so successful you can be if you base yourself on that mentality. You can’t win the HC 4 years in a row with a chip on the shoulder like.

Yea I know what you mean. I wouldn't mind a bit of Munster arrogance at times. Certianly us fans know how to play the arrogance card when we need to.

It's a mind thing Stag. The perception is Ulster play better on cold wet Friday nights at Ravenhill. I'm sure the stats would show this might not be the case but I believe it

I know what you mean Rava. I find that Munster do better when its dark in Thomond Park. When its bright our wins are less convincing.

Afternoon all,
Stag, I think everyone fell for Munster if the 2000-2005 run when you were the nearly men!
Now they are just jealous!

I think even I was questioning my allegiances at that stage. The sad thing is that he is tame compared to some Munster fans. People like him are unfortunately all too common.

I have incredibly distressing news that everyone must hear.
The Galaxy Truffle appears not to be in the Celebrations box anymore. It has been replaced by the Twix it seems, while I like a Twix getting rid of the best Celebration is the most heinous of crimes. Malteasers are thankfully still alive

Hi Dreamer. Ah I don't miss it too much. I'm really struggling to get any time to come in here at the moment and to be honest, I'm not massively interested in rugby. Well not to the extent where I enjoy discussing it. So really there wasn't much point me being a moderator.
I hope everyone has been well. Had a good time with Penfro at the weekend and I'm glad to see he enjoyed it.

nah, in all seriousness I get where you're coming from, we all go through phases of being on here more or less than others. If you don't have the time then no point moderating

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Afternoon pub.
I have never had a second favourite HC side, but a certain Munster fan at the 2007 final didn't advance their cause
And another question. Has an England player featured in the panoply of pub photos? Several have retired from international rugby, and all rugby recently in some cases owing to injury.

I think I put a pic of Steve Thompson above the bar?
If I didn't then I seriously meant to!
Will add him and Wilko to the one of Chris Patterson in the next pub.

I don't know Mick. Just don't have the time to get really involved. I'll watch highlights but nothing to how I used to be. To be honest, I'm glad to mixing it up with playing the game now as well, along with football and squash.

I like Munster. Certainly a lot more than Leinster
I think my second favourite team in the HC would have to be ASM Clermont Auvergne though. Best fans in the competition and they play a great brand of rugby.

Can't beat a Scarlets v O's derby match!
Unfortunately the way it is in Ireland, it's nowhere near as big. There's going to be a training camp for the national side which means all the internationals will be missing.
