The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the wedding pictures of Father Christmas, Sean Lamont and Paddy Wallace above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

1st one McFadden has missed this season. Thought he scored a goal there.

You called it Notch...there's a lot of quality there in these young guys..really impressed by their physicality. McKinney has been superb. Cochranes been having a nightmare but Trimble would have been proud of that finish.

I love Jim Neilly- direct quote;

There it is, bonus point for Leinster. Ground us down up front and deserved it.

Madigan and O Malley. Really growing as players. O Malley Must start at 13 in the HC with McFadden. Darcy showing nothing to stop the inevitable...

It's getting ugly for our lads now, but it doesn't feel like a 40 point defeat. We've been all backbone and spirit but it only takes you so far!
So proud of the younger players tonight.

It's been amazing- Ulster have given two very young guys in the centre making their professional debuts and D'Arcy hasn't been able to exploit that at all. You'd expect an international centre to expose these youngsters but he's been anonymous.

D'Arcy's been anonymous for a while now. Very impressed with such a young side performing so well. We really do have a lot of quality and potential in our back line. If we could only find a big brute in his teens and inject some of 1F's genes in him.

You are right to be proud Notch. Those boys went well beyond what was expected of them this eve.
The score belies it. Just ran out of steam.

George Hook thinks Ulster lost the game because they replaced Adam Macklin with Tom Court. Court didn't play well at tighthead, he's REALLY not a tighthead, but it was a weeee bit more nuanced than that...

sorted your typo there, Notch, no need to thank meNotch wrote:I think we are going to see some stars of the future of Ulster- and Irish- Rugby. Especially young Peter Nelson. It's immensely exciting for these backline players to be going head to head with guys who were playing in the Six Nations in March- when they themselves were playing Schools Rugby. It's a huge step up in level. The learning curve could not be steeper.
But I'm excited to see these guys given a chance. McLaughlin is always a guy who believes in young players and when the decision was made to rest the team that will face Munster today he had nohesitationchoice in throwing them in. I believe his decision will be justified by what these young players go on to achieve in the future and how our senior side performs against Munster on Friday regardless of the scoreline today.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Well, he did have a choice to be fair. But the worry is that having guys playing two games in four days would mean they would be nowhere near full capacity come the Munster match on Friday.
Despite the scoreline the young lads acquitted themselves well and I think they'll have learnt a lot from that match.

We're going to lose to Leinster away but don't want to be disgraced to Munster at home.
Makes sense?
No.
The better players will be rested yes, but also rusty.
The young guns will have started with a defeat and will be rewarded for their efforts with the drop

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Niall O'Connor having a nightmare with the boot at Thomond. Missed a few from in front of the posts.
To be honest I think it was a very good decision. The guys who played today will not be in a fit state to play on Friday. It is quite a step up in physicality from schools/club rugby they will not have recovered in four days time so I wouldn't advocate their selection regardless of how well they've done. But they may be needed by the first team during the Six Nations and this experience will stand to them then.
Similarly if guys can't go one week without retaining some of their match sharpness we've a few problems! I suppose we'll see how the team selected against Munster goes. Pienaar could have used the gametime. He's been very rusty of late.

That- my friend- is an exceptionally salient and relevant point!
I will indeed be going, which is great because last year I was so sick I missed our home game against Leinster and our home game against Biarritz in January! I was absolutely gutted to not be able to attend either of those matches in person. So I'm doubly looking forward to this one.

"all that gore, this film is shoite"
Good then Prop, or as terrible as it sounds.
Taking Mrs G to work, Miss G and her cousin to my parents and then off to Llanelli cop shop for one of my naughty boys. I am duty solicitor at court on Thursday (drink drives and domestic violence) then on call on New Year's Eve (more of the same plus public order and assaults). Then back in work a week today for the divorce season. A cold snap will also see a spike in probate. January can be quite depressing all told

Morning all,
Off to Birr to see the grandparents today. My granddad dislocated his shoulder at Church on Christmas day so will be nice to see him. Picking up my brothers girlfriend on the way.
Then off to Dublin to collect two of my friends who are coming over for the week.
Hope everyone is well and they enjoyed all the rugby yesterday if they were watching it.

Taking the two littlest girlies, different vibe to last years visit for the same fixture, but will be great once again.

Intense local derby. Nobody went through the motions. A had to be there sort of a match. The ticket office were very good fair play. Osprey fans useless. I was in the middle of them.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I suppose today should be "Black Eye Day" after all that punching yesterday?
I am cooking Christmas dinner today (long story).
My lovely parents were tasked with locating a suitably sized bird, about 10lbs was the suggestion. It was purchased and dispatch with MrP to reside in our extra fridge untill required. Last night I was working out timings for cooking it and sent MrP to check the weight on the packaging. 10 and a half pounds. Perfect!
This morning I decided to make the stuffing with the eldest little P. We had a lovely time and many laughs getting it ready. Then the moment of stuffing the actual fowl arrived and it was fetched from the fridge.
That was when I realised that my lovely parents had bought one that was already stuffed and dressed, ready to go in the oven.
And that it weighed 10 and a half pounds stuffed, not a 10 and a half pound turkey!
So we have about 3 times the stuffing and about half the turkey I was expecting!!!!
Hope everyone is having as many laughs today as we are!!!

Cheers mate, just back from the MadStad. Was a good game, both teams trying to play some running rugby. To be honest, there were times when I thought the better option for both sides would have been to put boot to ball, but credit to both for at least trying to play with play with ball in hand.
I think no TBP for us and a LBP for Chiefs was about a fair return to be honest. very enjoyable afternoon.
How is everyone anyway, all feeling about a stone heavier after Christmas and Boxing Day???
