The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the wedding pictures of Father Christmas, Sean Lamont and Paddy Wallace above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Glad to hear you're having a good one mate. Bet it's tough being taken out for beers every night, but I'm guessing you'll soldier on manfully

For sure Gibbo, little ones had me in stitches throughout.
Much needed win for us as well, need to get a little run going as it's so tight from 3rd to 10th in the league.

Hope the rugby goers enjoyed themselves. Back to work for me tomorrow. I'll struggle to get up a half five!

Oh, and I will say this safe in the knowledge that it cannot be construed as sour grapes as we won, but the referee was absolutely shocking.
No clue in the scrums, and very inconsistent at the breakdown. Only saving grace was no absolute howler that affected the result.

I can't sleep in, as much as I've tried, I still get up when it's dark!
Gibbo - Work wise, I've had a tough couple of weeks to be honest, but someone said to me the other day, apparently it takes on average about three months for someone to settle into a new job, so I've a while to go yet. It'll come. I just need to give myself a break once in a while, but that's me, always have to try twice as hard. Christmas has been a peaceful and much needed rest.

Turkey and STUFFING CALLS!
Later!
Sorry Mrs P, but you don't get 10lb turkeys that are not deboned. It should have been obvious it was boned and rolled.

Evening again.
Glas, we do get 10lb turkeys here. This one wasn't boned or anything just prestuffed and already in one of those "roasting bags".
I feel I cheated somehow not having to do all that dressing, stuffing and basting.
Mind you, it was only stuffed in the neck cavity whereas I usually press loads of stuffing between the breast and the skin to keep the breast meat moist.

What you had was a big chicken. Healthy turkeys are properly matured at 16lb+
Are you sure it wasn't 10k?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
The Story of Ireland (Fergal Keane) is now being repeated on RTE it seems. Great series.
Just on the Viking raiding parties striking at a small settlement on the Liffey known as Dubh Linn. Turned into a fortress, a port and then- over time- a cosmopolitan European trading hub.

Excellent and really informative series that. Learned a lot. It gets close to the bone too about the Irish. Good and bad. Keane pulls no punches. He's just the man for the job.

Glas,
Obviously I didn't get to meet the bird in it's prime but it was labled Bronze Turkey from a reputable retailer and it tasted like turkey so....
Maybe it was a youngun or a smallun?
Or maybe it had very heavy inards? Or very heavy feathers?
Does explain why I have so much trouble trying to get a fowl that wouldn't feed a small army!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Well it isn't as as it sounds.
I used to do the whole shebang on Christmas Day but the kids were never that fussed on the turkey and trimmings and they jusy wanted me to be there with them when they were playing with their pressies. So we decided to have "Party Food" on Christmas Day so I can spend more time with the kids and less time in the kitchen.
When we are home I would have cooked the traditional Turkey and trimmings on Punching (Boxing/St Stephens) Day but we were out this year so....

You never said it was a bronze. They are the black feathered ones with much gamier meat. The White ones have much heavier breasts.

Bara-gravy. Every Sunday when you had just gravy left on your plate after lunch, a 'toc' of bread and some spare gravy. Fills a hole till the rice pudding arrives.
Can anybody tell me why, although I'm not fond of swedes, gravy made with swede water is much nicer?

Morning all
Back to work for me today
Ah well, it could be worse, could be out of work and Santa may not have visited for the littlies, so can't grumble too much.
And it's almost the weekend, and it's the littlest of the O's 2nd birthday on Saturday, so we are now busy preparing for that having just got through Christmas.

That used to urine me off royally. The Partners would insist the office was open 2 days between Xmas and new year, but wouldn't turn up themselves nothing got done and it just caused resentment. Since I became partner we have closed all week. It's a small gesture but buys a lot of goodwill.
