Please, please, please make it happen.
I know it's too late for Santa, but EOS at the Ospreys would really make my Christmas

Exactly Dreamer would be a backward step. Should be looking at some young(ish) coach. Mike Rayer has done some good work at Bedford by all accounts and "The Chief" continues to go well at Ponty. Did your mince pies taste better than they looked ?rugbydreamer wrote:oh goodness, I couldn't help it but my initial reaction =

I think EOS is a very good coach actually. Ireland were consistantly in the top 2 sides in Europe under his watch...ok it went a bit pair shaped at the end and he outstayed his welcome maybe but I think people lose sight of all the good things he did....besides hopefully Tommy Bowe will come back to Ulster when he hears this.....

Does O'Sullivan want to be Scott Johnson? After all Johnson left the Eagles to go to the Liberty and Eddie stepped into his shoes at the Eagles, and now he wants to do the same again. This could be bad news for Scotland then.
Also I would have thought the Ospreys would be looking more towards trying to get someone in from the region itself as that would be in line with their new ethos.

Got to feel sorry for Tommy Bowe. He headed off to foreign shores to get away from the man, but O'Sullivan is on the verge of tracking him down again!
I don't think he will get the job at all. 1) This whole story comes from his manager, which could be read as synonym for agent in this context whatever the difference in job title, and 2) He did all the same things when the Edinburgh job is open with his declarations of interest in the media etc. and he was ignored. I think he's viewed as a busted flush in the Home Nations and teams are very wary of him.

Tommy Bowe would never be picked again!!!!
But then, Tommy Bowe would be even more inclined to want to return home!

I think he could be just what they need. A coach familiar with the idea of a regional setup from his days as Connacht and internationally with Ireland.
A very talented backs coach who tends to favour building a strong team around a core of players. Could be just what they need.
IMO he is remembered for the wrong reasons in Ireland and is cut from a similar cloth to Gatland who he has worked with in the past.

I thought he was taking over in Ulster at the end of the Season?

From memory Eddie doesn't really get on that well with Gatland. Might not be a good move for the Ospreys.red_stag wrote:I think he could be just what they need. A coach familiar with the idea of a regional setup from his days as Connacht and internationally with Ireland.

I imagine that no one will be appointed and we will have the Sean Holly show again... Not any of our idea of fun but he seems to be favoured by the man who calls the shots Big man Cuddy.

Eddie coached the Eagles before he coached Ireland. That was his 2nd stint with them.
I think I've heard it said that the Os want to model themselves on Munster, who have had a string of non-Irish coaches. Think its more important that the playing staff are locals.
Eddie would be a very good coach for the Os. The Os management might be happy with Eddie, who is credited with knifing Gatland in the back in Ireland. (one of his knicknames is Dagger).

I think getting people like Rayer or the Chief involved would be a great move for the Os and eventually Wales.
But would Cuddy be happy with so called up and coming coaches or would he want a marque signing to hang his hat on so to speak?

I am not a fan of the idea of Eddie O'Sulivan being coach, would rather a man with a proven record.

It's on his success the grand slam of 09 was built.

Re: Mr Frying Pan, May I Introduce Mr Fire (The O's and EOS !?!?!?)
Eddie O'Sullivan. When Ireland actually imploded during the WC fiasco, many people forget they were entering that competition with much more expected of them than was expected of them this time. O'Sullivan wasn't considered a bad or weak coach and many Irish people actually dared to believe in a semi-final at least.
The implosion created the O'Sullivan myth and if we're all being really honest on this Irish side of the Irish sea, a lot of what was going on in the side then had little to do with O'Sullivan's coaching or preparation and a lot to do with hovering bad blood, moodiness and sulking amongst some of the off-mental-colour players. That's always denied but the proverbial dog on the street knows it's true.
O'Sullivan's time was up with the Irish yes, if only because we all knew it would take a fresh face to refocus the players minds. O'Sullivan's was too familiar a face to get that job done. And by the end, O'Sullivan himself also needed the break from the Irish side to refocus his thoughts. O'Sullivan a bad coach? I don't think so.
