Some fights Brits should take in 2012
Happy New Year one and all!
On the back of TRUSS last post, here are some fights I want Brits to take in 2012.
George Groves v Robin Reid. If Reid is going to continue his ill advised return, then Groves should fight him,.Good step up fight for Groves against a once world champ.
Kevin Mitchell v Ricky Burns- Makes perfect sense to me at LW. Will be no trash before, give it all in ring, 50-50 type fight and possibly a rematch.
Carl Froch v Mikkell Kessler- In England, i think it can happen and it would be a great spectacle if it did. Froch has earned it, hope the Hearns can get it,
Kell Brook v Mike Jones- Two hot prospects, Brook wins this for me by late stoppage and really boosts his profile both here and overseas.
Matthew Macklin v Sergio Martinez- Macklin has earned this, will lose but it should happen...
Matthew Macklin v Darren Barker- Once the last is done lets have the all Britain fight, boxer v come forward pressure fighter, excellent matchup.
Amir Khan v Lamont Peterson II- Vegase, let's see if Khan can learn anything from his mistakes.
David Haye v Vitali Klitschko- Why not
David Price v Tyson Fury- Battle of the prospects, see if Fury can learn how to use his attributes and whether Price can KO the big man.
James Degale v Glen Johnson- Ok, so if Chunky thinnks he can take ont he world this year, why not bring the road warrior over and see if he can pick him off over the distance.
Nathan Cleverly v Tony Bellew II-Fun fun fun and lets be honest, Clev is not ready for tougher challenges in the LH divisin, good job he isn't a world champ...oops
I have lots more but what do you think of my list and what matchups are on yours???

Don't see why Macklin should try luring Martinez before getting Sturm again.
Cannot for the life of me see what Groves would prove in beating a shot Reid, nor how Reid has earned the right to challenge for the British/Commonwealth titles. If anything a Degale rematch is much more appealing with the winner taking all (Brit/Comm/Euro titles).
The rest though I can agree with.

Cheers knowsit anf you're right, Reid has done nothing. But it's a test against an old veteran, Booth has made it clear he wont be getting carried away woth Grovers this year, so might be worth it.

What would Groves beating up on a tired, old and washed up Reid prove. BJ Saunders would beat Reid. He is that shot. It wouldn't be a learning fight.

Cleverly needs to be much more active this year than last. He isn't ready for Hopkins/Cloud/Dawson at the moment but he should be in against other top ten fighters. Maybe take on Shumenov at the end of the year.
Would look forward to seeing Brook v Jones. It would be a good marker for where he is at.

marker? it's more than a marker, it's two undefeated talents putting it on the line. it's world level for the winner, it's a title shot afterwards, it's a huge test, not a marker.

Re: Some fights Brits should take in 2012
I'd like to see some huge domestic bouts this year. 2011 was the year of our lads going abroad, stepping out of their class too soon (in most cases, but not all) and being outboxed, admittedly courageously so on occasion.
Now, i'd never blame anyone for taking the big money, and brave performances by the likes of Matthew Hatton, Darren Barker, Matthew Macklin do seem to be earning some of our guys a bit of respect, but i do feel that some of them are being put in with guys too good, too soon, or on occasion being matched with guys too heavy.
We ended 2010 strongly, but now have had our egos bruised a bit after a tough year. Getting confidence high again will be key, and i fancy a few domestic tear-ups might help in that respect rather than further brave but ultimately naive performances over the pond.

I'd have to say any one of the Brit Middleweights (Barker, Sturm and Murray) against Chavez Jr... Sturm is likely to face Martinez next year and Murray in a possible rematch against Sturm so a great choice would be Barker against Chavez, or stick him in with Sturm.
I'd also like to see Brook fight Jones, but apparently he's due a "big UK show" around March or May time I believe (probably for that WBA strap).
