Smackdown spoilers for this Friday (6th January 2012)

The following was taped on Tuesday, January 3 in Little Rock, Arkansas:

WWE Smackdown for January 6:

* Cody Rhodes def. Booker T to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

* Hornswoggle def. Heath Slater in an Over The Top Rope Challenge. Slater beat Hornswoggle down after the match. Justin Gabriel made the save.

* Hunico def. Ted DiBiase.

* Wade Barrett says he'll be in the Royal Rumble while Randy Orton is recovering at home. Sheamus comes out, and he goes face to face with Barrett. Jinder Mahal came out, and he beat on Sheamus with Barrett. Barrett hits the Winds of Change, and Mahal applies the Camel Clutch. They announce that Sheamus will take on Jinder Mahal next week.

* Santino Marella def. Drew McIntyre. Marella won the right to be Teddy Long's assistant on the show.

* Primo and Epico def. Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston in a non-title match.

* Tamina def. Natalya.

* Daniel Bryan def. Big Show via DQ to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Mark Henry interfered at the end. Bryan ran away from a WMD, and he goaded Henry into pushing him for the DQ.

Sounds like Daniel Bryan is slowly turning heel on Big Show... Somehow...

Only in the WWE can they present David turning heel on Goliath

I really hate the thought that only bad guys will do absolutely anything to hold onto the World Title, it's the pinnacle of the business and they should do anything and everything possible in order to win the match or at the very least retain the title

That's why I used to think Bret Hart was a great Champion, he'd fight faces and heels but wouldn't be above using heel tactics in order to get the job done

That being said, I'd like Bryan to turn heel but doing it on the Big Show is a bit redundantn he should be doing anything possible against someone so much bigger than him to survive

If he comes out next week with a slingshot and a rock i will mark out.

Am I in a minority of one that thinks Rhodes should be turned face? He got a decent pop at Survivor Series. I think if he and Bryan entered a program it could easily have a 'tweener' effect which I think would be epic.

Nope, i agree with you. I think having Dusty and Dustin turn on him would elevate him.

When he turns that should be his prop

It would only be topped if he came out with a giant, medievil slingshot and instead of 'a' rock, he used 'The Rock'.

Bryan will be a champion like Swagger, if you can't get your champions to win cleanly once in a while then they are not going to be taken seriously by the fans. He is going to have to win cleanly at Royal Rumble to win over some fans.

As Chavo once said, that's 19 losses on TV. That's more exposure than some guys get.

That ending to the match was awful. They could have used heel tactics to at least let him pin Show.

It seems only Mysterio is only allowed to beat big guys clean

You don't have someone the size of DB pin Show clean, definitely not on TV anyway

You can tell WWE have hired new writers recently because their actually thinking about what their doing instead of writing like their Vince Russo e.g Jericho return with all the subtle hints, Daniel Bryan and Cena's slow Heel turns.

just watched it, that lebel lock looked locked in nicely on show. enjoying dbry atm. henry was brilliant on commentary. "SHUT UP"

Daniel Bryan would never pin Big Show clean, but he could make Big Show tap out. That already ranks him above Rey Mysterio's underdog reign.

Can see D Bryan slowley turning heel. I recon it will be confirmed at Royal Rumble with assitance from someone. Sounds stupid but maybe Cole could acctually help him and then Cole could become Bryans heel manager. Could work maybe

it does make you wonder how it will work. Obviously Cole is the heel commentator and has slagged Bryan off since he debuted. When Bryan does turn heel(I won't say if because its coming) how will Cole call him

I'd leave the heel turn until after Mania and the draft, have him transferred to Raw and then after months of teasing a heel turn he turns on Punk costing him the title. A rivalry between them two would be pretty cool

I loved how Mark Henry reacted when Michael Cole asked him whether Daniel Bryan would beat Hornsswoggle!!

Like I said MtotheC - Sheamus lost to Hornswoggle a few weeks back, and now it looks like that long awaited Slater vs Gabriel feud is likely to take off.

I think you're held in high esteem if you lose to Hornswoggle. Plus, as mentioned above - he's on TV every week.

2012 is the year of Slater's ascension, and by WM 2013, he WILL have won a singles title.

Is there a more natural heel than Slater on the roster right now? He's not terrible in the ring but everything about him makes you want to punch him in the face the moment he shows up.

Slater vs Gabriel will be a good feud, hopefully elevate both of them.
