The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Steve Shingler, Tim Visser and Sean Maitland above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

I don't know if anyone has seen the latest video on rugbydump about Benoit August "play-acting" but does anyone else think that if they were jabbed in the throat like he was it would have hurt them as well?

Munsty, haven't seen the clip, but a straight-fingered jab to the throat is a very powerful weapon and doesn't hurt the deliverer that muchMBTGOG wrote:I don't know if anyone has seen the latest video on rugbydump about Benoit August "play-acting" but does anyone else think that if they were jabbed in the throat like he was it would have hurt them as well?

Good win for Ulster last night - good(godman) must be out to pasture immediately. The Saints vs Quins match was a v good spectacle too

Yeah Munsty, which is why he clutches his throat, but then he obviously makes a very conscious decision to fall over with no further contact so...

So long as the other players know who we are playing unlike me I think we should be ok!! Hoping the ankle actually lets me last a match!!
Rava: looking tentatively at things, I may be able to get over for the O's match and then Ireland vs Italy....all depends on work situation though!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
The course is Proofreading and Copy Editing Rava, it's a correspondence course so I can study at home at my own pace. I'm seriously considering going self employed once I've completed it. Frightening! Just need to find a temporary job to tide me over and then see from there. I've temped before so it's not too daunting.

There is plenty of work in that for a self employed person swanny. Companies such as Siemens pay excellent money for people to proofread their work instructions and help them improve them.
Perfect part time jobs in that field.

Thanks Rava and Billy
The course should take me between 3 and 6 months to complete so not too long. The thought of being free of the 9 - 5 is hugely appealing. And so is not having to answer to so-called authority!

I will Billy, thank you
I'm going to complete the course application form right now!
Wonder where the heck my cheque book is? I hardly use the thing these days, except to pay the milkman... We'll have no comments thank you!
Good point Hughie. Wonder if I'll annoy the hell out of myself?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Go for it Swanny (not with Ernie - Sharpey would av im) - but out on your own.
Mostly, the money is better and even though your customers are realistically your boss, its just so much better.
No politics, no internal cow-towing, minimum boring meetings. Just send me the cheque ya feicers.
I did it when I came to NL, 25 years ago. Scarey at 1st but a great buzz when its up and running.
You have the right stuff to do it.
I've worked with Technical Authors at IBM and a few other big companies. They get a paid a packet, proof-reading, verifying and correcting Technical Manuals.
That's just one example. Magazine companies like Elsevier (huge here) pay good bucks for it too.
All that work can be done at home and in yer own time - based on the deal. Which is nice.
Like Billy, give me shout if you need contacts for work like this.
See, its already happening.
Believe.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Thanks for the words of encouragement and the support. Can't tell you how much I appreciate it.
Yes I am serious. Self employment is something I've thought about many a time but have never really known what to do. I proofread the marketing literature where I used to work and then, when going through my recent redundancy, I noticed errors in the paperwork. Feeling somewhat belligerent about the situation I pointed out said errors. That led to a train of thought that's brought me to this point.
I know it will be hard work, I'm under no illusions, but I'm not afraid of that and feel excited at the prospect.
And I'm already being far more careful with my spelling and grammar as I type my posts on here!
