First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Steve Shingler, Tim Visser and Sean Maitland above the bar!

So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

You get less chances to score in soccer so that's why decisions are so crucial .I don't think City would have won anyway. So I don't think the ref was completely at fault.

Manchester United are the Munster of football. They always seem to eke out crucial wins leaving people consumed with envy and bitterness to rant about referees on the internet.

To be fair it was a shocker of a red card and the referee seemed to be completely overawed by the occasion.

Notch, look at the decision no way is that a red card. I used to support United so I have no ill feelings towards them. It was a poor decision. They didn't get the rub of the green last weekend so it balanced out I guess.

Also as we're being oh the ref gifted it to united, he also did not give us a clear cut penalty decision in the 2nd half for us to have a chance of going to 4-1, so the bad calls even themselves out really.

Also, if a player doesn't want to be at a risk of getting a card (of any colour), don't challenge with your studs showing. Simple angel

The penalty given was soft so that evened out. Anyway United deserved to win but the ref did effect the outcome. Are you seriously saying that was a card? You see far worse challenges that get away with nothing.

Of course you do, but because those challenges get away with nothing, does that make it right??

Not a red for me, would perhaps have been unlucky to see a yellow the more times I see it. But tehre was a disgusting too footed challenge that connected last week that didn't even get a card at all.

I think what this highlights is the lack of consistency in officiating this part of the game in football. If players just tackled properly, there wouldn't be a problem.

It's not a bad tackle. Won the ball fairly and squarely. I wouldn't be allowed play soccer and Roy Keane wouldn't have had a career if that'a "bad" challenge. I still don't see why they signed Scholes. Smacks of desperation, when you have gus like Anderson in the wings and when centre back is the biggest issue they have.

Of course it smacks of desperation. Our midfield has been rubbish all season, players like Anderson just haven't been stepping up. Then again Scholes wasn't great when he came for us either. We need to sign someone in the transfer window asap. Tis nice we have Scholes to fall back on.

Defence I agree is more of a problem for us at the moment. Was glad to see Smalling and Ferdinand both back in the team playing though, great to see that.

music His name is Luis Suarez he wears the famous red, just can't get enough. drumroll music Great player, an idiot but I don't know if he meant serious offence during that incident. Rio was poor enough today, two god awful backpasses for one thing. Jones is looking like a bit of a rip off at 20 million but he is only 19.

Hang on, am I in a soccer pub by mistake? Has nobody commented on the most depressing rugby sight on TV this year so far, Dr Gwyn Jones doing spoiling english language Welsh rugby coverage as well? Or on Jonathan Davies hinting that Shingler would have overtaken Priestland in a matter of time?

It certainly is an awful call. It is a perfect challenge by a centre back. A two footed challenge should only be a red when it is above ankle height. That was too low to the floor to do any serious damage. It was perfectly timed. His left leg was nowhere near to making contact with Nani. Also would Richard Dunne be a good buy for United? He would be got for cheap and has proven how solid he is time and time again.

His left foot was not close enough to Nani to call it two footed in my view.Stag, it's given as a red when it is ankle and above it is a very good challenge. He did all the work with his right foot. His left foot made not contact. If he did Nani would have been on the floor. They didn't even look for a free. Also seeing as your a toon fan. How good is Demba Ba? Heh as been sensational this year.
