First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Steve Shingler, Tim Visser and Sean Maitland above the bar!

So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Interesting article this, not sure I fully agree with Butlers last line about the coach: http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2012/jan/07/drinking-culture-rugby-union

Drinking may be part of rugby culture but since rugby went professional, that should change just like the sport itself has. At professional level I mean.

The article is correct about drinking and rugby culture...a few sports have a drinking culture about them don't they? Especially team sports.

DREAMER - are really bored ? If you're not I have 3500 photos you could look at then you would be Wink

GLAS- Limerick info yes ? Bring a stab vest Whistle

CARI - worst 2 concerts I ever went to Sorry

Bowie (Glass Spider Tour) 1987 at the old National Stadium. First concert at the ground, first time Bowie had played in Cardiff for nearly 20 years. Was it a 'special' event ? No, he played 2 songs that most people would've known

U2 (Zooropa Tour) 1993 again at the old National Stadium, absolute pretentious twaddle, had a free ticket and walked out. However, Joshua Tree (1987) only the second concert at the old National Stadium and was fan, blydi, tastic Very Happy

Team sports definitely seem to Cari, understandable in way /i guess. Agree with Butler about the dangers of boredom and drinking in sports, as a pro, it must be difficult to keep yourself occupied outside of the sport.

Penfro! Shame on you! Although the Bowie one sounds understandably disappointing if he only did two songs fans knew.

Dreamer - yes I suppose it is difficult for pro's to stay occupied. Some of them do other sports, like a lot of rugby players are into playing golf. Except Andy Powell who likes buggy racing Very Happy

They are claiming it will be too difficult to properly manage the logistics of it all. They said that 4 test matches (Barbarians, NZ, NZ, NZ) is going to be enough without playing another 2 midweek games.

Hmm, if I were them I'd have only arranged 2 tests v NZ and had a mid week game instead of the 3rd one. Reckon that would have worked out better for a summer tour (imo Smile )

Quite right, losing four is much preferable to six.

Yup indeed. Also Ireland are looking for a new teammanager at the moment I didn't know.

To be honest I'm very pleased about this. The IRFU limits the amount of games players play- the more fixtures the national side plays, the less players get to turn out for their provinces. If they start adding midweek games to the already ridiculous situation of having four games in the summer we probably won't get to see our best homegrown players in provincial colours very regularly at all.

The idea was that Ireland and Ireland A would tour together and the Ireland A team would play the midweek games.

Antiques Roadshow - you know, I don't even know if that show is good. All I know is that my Mam used to try and make us watch it every Sunday when I was little and I blydi well hated it! Automatically have to turnover whenever I hear the accursed music on the tv.

Stag - any idea on who the 4 might be? or is it all hush hush?

Thats equally bad, provincial players are already playing a lot of games in the Pro12. They don't need a summer tour on top of that. We have enough Ireland A fixtures- 2 or 3 a year is fine. They should use the Barbarians game and one of the NZ tests to blood players who would have benefited from Ireland A fixtures and give the seniors a rest.
