The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Steve Shingler, Tim Visser and Sean Maitland above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Roman Poite has landed two great matches. Ulster v Tigers and Northampton v Munster.
Also Dudley Phillips is refereeing in the Heineken Cup???

No worries Cari - need to get a Cardiff/Newport/anybody else who fancies it January meet up sorted - doesn't have to be a match, just a natter and a few drinkiesCari wrote: Penfro...I get you now I expect she'll be back for the Six Nations series...shame her man won't be.

Stag - of course it would be more amusing, have just been waiting for ages for him to get picked to ref a match with a Welsh side in it. I just find it very funny that he's been awarded a match for a side with fans that are perceived to be complete ref haters a lot of the time, is all

I dunno, I dont see whats amusing about it. Not in a "you shouldn't be laughing at refs way". Just I don't see whats amusing. Its a strange word. Normally you'd be annoyed or happy with a choice of ref or amused maybe if it was an ironic selection like him refereeing the same match that caused him so much grief.
But it seems a very usual sort of appointment to me.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Ah tis just that he was portrayed as such a pantomime villain in the press, Stag. I dunno, can't explain it, but I find it amusing, can't really take Rolland seriously at all anymore.

I REALLY hope thats based on more than his Sam Warburton decision, which was 1 billion per cent correct in both spirit of law and letter of the law.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Yes of course it is. I've never rated him very much as a ref, and I was absolutely peed off at his display in both the breakdown and scrums in the Wales v Samoa match. I thought he was dreadful.
I know the Sam Warburton call was right to the letter of the law, but he got numerous other calls wrong in that game as well.
Guess waht I'm saying is that I just don't think he's a very good ref in a lot of the key aspects of rugby.

Bit of a roundabout discussion today. We started the evening giving out about refs and we're ending it giving out about refs!

Might be based on the fact he didn't even give a yellow for a "tip tackle" in the Toulouse v Quins game in December ??

Didn't he give a red to Fritz in a game last season for a tip tackle?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Dreamer not rating him as a ref is grand. There are oodles of refs i dont rate either. I just would hate to think the red card was.only reason. I agree with you he got plenty wrong in that match especially scrum.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Stag what she's getting at is that the Scarlets fans will only need tge slightest excuse get on his back all match whereas Ospreys or Blues fans would give it a rest after his first call.

I would like to think you know me better by now then to think that one decision is enough to sway my opinion, Stag.
Glas - aye that's part of it.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Fair play Dreamer. I can understand that.
Also Glas I understand what you mean.
We can get a bit like that in Munster. It pains me to say it but I actually think Roman Poite is emerging as a very good ref after several years of hating him. But plenty of people in Munster are gonna have a ready made excuse if we lose to Saints.
Have to say I'm uber-excited you lot are coming over for Ireland v Wales. I'm actually looking forward to the 6 Nations this year believe it or not.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Stupid internet died on me. There are 10 reasons Im looking forward to Six Nations 2011.
1. We have had 4 different winners in 4 different years. Wales, Ireland, England, France - this we hopefully be highly competitive!!
2. Teams aren't focused on Rugby World Cup anymore its all about winning the matches!!
3. I have some top Welsh pals coming over for Ireland v Wales!!!
4. Italy have a new stadium and a fairly good scalp last year (France). I think they can push on by beating England!!
5. I'm heading over to Paris for France v Ireland and my girlfriend is gonna come over too!!
6. A certain Scotsman and his Irish sidekick are coming over to Ireland v Scotland!!
7. My Dad and I have a day trip all planned for Ireland v Italy. A fry up in the morning. Beers in the evening!!!
8. Scottish teams have good domestic form (Glasgow) and good Euro form (Edinburgh). A dark horse.
9. The teams will be used to playing together from RWC which should have more coherent games.
10. There is a chance that I'll be able to attend Wales v France as a neutral which would be a cracking game.

No if I go over it will be work related so I'd say in the Marriott or the Mercure hotels in Cardiff. It may or may not come to pass.

Mr Penfro what did you make of Sherlocks latest offering. I was a massive fan of the first season I absolutely loved. I feared second season syndrome however last weeks episode was spectacular. This week though? I'm not going to mince my words. Dissapointed.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
It wasn't that bad. The Hound of the Baskervilles as a story does not survive the invention of the motor car, as in it is not plausible for anybody to be walking on the moor after dark in an updated version.
Anyway, you only liked last weeks because you saw bums.

Bore da pawb / good morning all.
I watched last night's Sherlock - the first I've seen. The programme was ruined by stupid and unnecessary camera effects. I presume they were meant to add something but they were just a distraction.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First time a took a car to the NEW MOT centre was almost a disaster.
It was my mum's car and it was just to get one specific thing rechecked so I didn't have to go through the whole thing. The guy told me just to follow the car who was very slowly entering the huge, hanger type, poorly lit building.
We were both only moving at about 3 mph so I was pretty close behind him. Suddenly someone rushed over to ny car and stopped me. They hadn't mentioned that we were driving over the inspection pits and the wheels of my car weren't quite lined up properly.
They just stopped me in time before the front wheel ended up in the pit!
Hated taking the car back after that!

nice one Rava!
And morning/bore da all.
For the first time in...well I can't remember the last time I managed it, I got up with my alarm today, managed to have a nice relaxed breakfast before work, made for a very good change not to be rushing around like a crazy person 10 mins before I have to leave the flat!

Good news, Rava - and well done, Dreamer. I used to get up with my alarm, many moons ago, but it's so tempting to press the snooze button at five in the morning!
