The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Steve Shingler, Tim Visser and Sean Maitland above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Glas... any tours of France planned in the near future? You'd be a one man riot I'm sure. The famous 4 day? rugby tour had me in stitches!

Ah no, brough a tin of beans to work for lunch. Forget a bloody tin opener.

WillyGilly wrote:Mr Penfro what did you make of Sherlocks latest offering. I was a massive fan of the first season I absolutely loved. I feared second season syndrome however last weeks episode was spectacular. This week though? I'm not going to mince my words. Dissapointed.
Willy – sorry for the delay in replying. Love all the Sherlock Holmes stories (I have the complete collection). I agree, the first series was fantastic and I, like yourself, was worried the 2nd series might be a bit of a let down. Last weeks episode was fantastic, albeit helped by whst Glas has alluded to – the, ahem, main female character
Last nights episiode did not match up to that, although I didn’t think it was that bad. It may have seemed a wee bit inconsistent (why did the Corporal and Holmes have to ‘swipe in’ but Watson did not ???), and far fetched, but as the great man himself would say "When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth".
When the initial series was announced, I had been a bit worried about the updating it to a modern setting. However, I’ve been bowled over. The casting of Cumberbatch and Freeman is excellent, the interaction between them is a joy to watch. Hope, from your viewpoint, last night was a glitch and that it continues to match the high standards from the 1st series and the opening of this series

I think I'm coming down with something.
I actually just walked home in my lunch break to pick up my gym kit, with the aim of going there after work (although this still doesn't mean I'll actually go, depends on how the afternoon goes).
I never do that!

Ha, just saw myself self on TV... leaning over the balcony taking a photo of Sachin Tendulkar walking off the SCG the other day.
I froze the picture and there's some idiot in a blue shirt sticking his arm out with a mobile phone.
(can't believe I'm watching the highlights for the 3rd time)

BTW don't let them confuse you there are 6 books. Except one book is called Book 3: Part 1 and the other is Book 3: Part 2.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Afternoon all,
Finally managed to catch up on about two days reading. Was going to do it yesterday but had a random bout of "tiredness" after Saturday night in asbos. Strange coincidence that.
Staggy, you sure youve never been tested?? You've a strange fascination with making lists. It's most peculiar
Speaking of one of your lists, I bring your attention to one point,
6. A certain Scotsman and his Irish sidekick are coming over to Ireland v Scotland!!
You must be talking about Rava, cause I'm never anyone's side kick

OK, will have to get back into them. I was a little way into Book 1 a couple of months ago, decided I wasn't in the mood, and haven't picked it up again. I did similar with the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo a while back, and wound up loving that story, so touch wood ...
I got the new Terry Pratchett novel as a belated xmas pressie last week, it's very good.

What's the bet you two don't end up discussing blydi books in Dublin?
"the abiding metaphor is lost I feel towards the end of the third book where the necessity of plot weakened the series' moral focus"
"well that is understandable when the book is operating on four different levels"
"only four! I spotted at least eight"
"ten, eleven levels in fact..."
*yawn*

Glas, I make no promises on any front.
I have a number of theories and have plucked out a few nice metaphors.
I find with these things I see all kinda of symbolism that is mere coincidence rather than design of the author.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Good afternoon all and sundry.
How the hec are you all? I have just transfered through my money to Stag for the Wales game. I believe I will be sitting with some of you lovely people at it.
Hughie, I am still going to try get a ticket for the Scotland game and go with you folk so if you hear of any floating about, holla at your boy k??
Going to get stuck into the rest of Leo Cullens book. very enjoyable.
Hughie, When you come over, are you checking a bag in? will I see that bottle of drink of mine ever???
I have a mate coming home from London on 17th February if not and said he would take it.
Any of the Irish regulars watch LOVE/HATE? It's going over the the UK soon I believe but has to be the best Irish produced drama I have ever seen. tis a belter of a series.

I got the latest Jason Bourne book a couple of months ago and can't really get into it. I recently bought the latest Lee Child (Jack Reacher) book on release but won't start reading it until the other is finished.

Haha. cool sounds like a plan Staggy. wouldn't want to leave you on your tobler...
Dreamer, you should check it out. if I am finished with them by the time you are over, you can have a lend of my season 1 and 2..
It's about Dublin gangland. but its done excellently with a decent balance of humour thrown in as well.
I am excited for Season 3

According to my Dad (who is a Limerick city detective) it is extremely accurate at times. He says its a little close to home.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
When did it start being 'season' rather than 'series?'
(That's not aimed at you, Micky, I'm just wondering.)
