Exciting young scotland talent!
For years Scotland has struggled to find exciting Scottish backs who know their way to the tryline. Things appear to be on the up though with some exciting young players coming through and looking like they could go all the way. 10 and 12 have been the problem position for many years since the 99 winning team but even in those positions there are many talented players.
some of the future talent coming through are
9s
Ross samson (london irish)
murray mcconnell (glasgow)
Alex Black (Edinburgh)
Grayson Hart( ex auckland blues now waratahs back up squad)
10s
Duncan weir(glasgow)
Harry Leonard(edinburgh)can play 12
Gregor hunter(edinburgh)
Sam hidalgo clyne(scotland 7s) can play 12
Lee Miller (Gala)can play 12
Alex Blair(was with edinburgh until injury)
12s
Matt Scott(edinburgh)
Robbie Ferguson (ayr)
James Murray(Begles academy)
Tommy Allan(Western Province)
13s
Mark Bennett (clermont)
James Johnstone(Glasgow Academy)
Wings
Tim Visser(Edinburgh)
Dougie Fife(currie and scotland 7s)
Kerr Gossman( Scotland 7s)
James Fleming(scotland 7s)
Lee Jones( Edinburgh)
James Farndale( Edinburgh academy)
Rory Hughes(Glasgow Academy)
Peter Stewart(Nudgee college and queensland schools)
Full Backs
Stuart Hogg(glasgow)
Tom Brown(edinburgh)
Fraser Thompson(melrose)
Stephen McColl(Leeds)
Now Scotland has some good young backs on their way up what players are Scotland fans excited to see
come through and what other Scottish talent is there that we might not be aware off?

If someone made that response about a group of young Welsh talent you'd be rightly annoyed.
Scottish rugby has been in the doldrums for too long. It's about time we had some talent to look forward to. Lets hope they get enough game time to properly develop.

Indeed we have but there is a lot of optimism around this new generation that are coming through, the scottish youth system seems to finally be working with the u18s recently beating england and france both away from home i think.

No Shingler? He has just got a call-up to Scotlands 6 Nations squad and is the most exciting back prospect Scotland have produced....

Maj, there's plenty of exciting young Scots talent come thru, and I, for one, am quite happy if it's under the radar - victories never come sweeter than when they are unexpected

I wasn't aware that Grayson Hart was Scottish, but good luck to him if he is.if it hadnt been for a certain Sid Going and Chris Laidlaw his uncle John would have been an All Black.

So we can add Grayson Hart to Sean maitland, Quade Cooper and all the Stanleys (all Sean 's cousins) this Scottish backline is really starting to come together, and you guys havent spent a cent.

Don't be silly. Cooper has already been capped for Australia at under 10s level so he can't play for Scotland!

We dont worry about silly little technicalities like that, We're going to make Scotlands backline the most dynamic in World rugby.

I see Mark Bennett has been named in the under 20s squad for the 6 nations, I thought he was still some way from recovering from his cruciate injury?

Can we have a forward in exchange for the Nudgee boy? We can make the switch half way in kazakhstan.

Scotland look set to become the next All Blacks. But instead of just limiting their poaching to the Pacific Islands theirs covers the known world!

You could have Benson and Winston Stanley as a mid field pairing, true Joe,Kyle,Jeremy and Chase are a bit past it.

You raise the interesting issue of Poaching,Grayson Harts old coach at Grammar Carlton was none other than Shane Howarth, now you as a Welsh man should know that no one knows their way better around the IRB's qualification rules than Howie.

you comments are ever so insightful and factual but
Erm I'll think you'll find it is actually more than one or two but of course Wales being the saints that they are would never dream of having players play for them outside of Wales

Now, now Gatts lets not be taking out the Shingler issue on the Scottish posters, they didn't pick Shingler, Andy Robinson did.Gatts wrote:Saw title and was expecting babes, not a list of players no one ever heard of
The Scottish posters are a nice bunch.
Right this is going to sound a bit sarcastic considering Jones is a Welsh surname, but has anyone seen Lee Jones play? He scored a simply amazing try against the Ospreys, Shane Williams would of been proud of his feet in that one, he looks a fantastic talent. I understand he is part of the 7's team, and really could be a game breaker for Scotland in the future. A very exciting talent.

I wonder if a Sottish born coach would have included Shingler in the squad.

Re: Exciting young scotland talent!
Lee Jones has had a mixed start to this season, looked really really good the first 2/3 months and got player of the month at edinburgh but the last month or so looks as if his confidence has dropped a bit. Is very good in attack but needs to work a bit more to get the ball, defence is fairly good but needs to do some work on kick receiving.

Re: Exciting young scotland talent!
Attacking has been Scotlands problem, you don;t score enough tries to win games against teams who have a similar or stronger pack than yours.Majestic83 wrote:Lee Jones has had a mixed start to this season, looked really really good the first 2/3 months and got player of the month at edinburgh but the last month or so looks as if his confidence has dropped a bit. Surely the likes of Lee Jones, Sean Lamont, and maybe one of the more younger attack minded fly halfs would be the way to solve this crisis that has Scotland being a successful side for so long?

Re: Exciting young scotland talent!
I would have agreed with Lee Jones being in the starting xv for Scotland even a few weeks ago but his last couple of performances have been very poor. He cost Edinburgh a win against Glasgow at murrayfield when he dropped the ball over the line and missed a fair few tackles.
I think a few more games under his belt and he will be knocking on the door for scotland but i think the 6 nations especially the first couple of games might be slightly to early.

I have said this for a long time, I think Duncan Weir looks the real deal and could be the next big no. 10 in British and Irish rugby. How long can the two Scottish regions hold on to these players though until the English or French clubs come knocking.

I know its about backs....but in young Grant Shiells....you have one hell of a LH Prop coming through at the Falcons....
If we're down (which looks highly likely) he may well look to move to a Scottish region or certainly to another top flight club, rather than spend a season in the championship....

I think he's just realised his potential...or maybe the influence of Murray is bringing him on...who knows.
All i know is Scotalnd have a potential star there.
I just wonder if he would stay for a season if someone like Deano...or a good coach came in and the club showed ambition...or wether he would rather fight for a scotland spot with another club....
