Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
First topic message reminder :
Let's see how this pans out.
First person to get the confirmed correct answer gets to post the next clue. No need to give the number of characters in the name, but the clue must be for the first and last name (although variants of first name are allowed e.g. Andy or Andrew)
1. Delivered without Jay, a robot, without Cy.

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
male, doubles player (actually not that famous but I think you should know the name).
Clue is for both names, you need to decompose like this
with | year's beginning | comes the goat (the "with" is a clue by itself)
PS: afraid I'm not going to be around this evening, should be back in three and a bit hours or so...

no.
year's beginning doesn't refer to a month.

MfC must have gone. I'll modestly assume I'm right and leave a clue before I depart in 15 mins or so.

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
'larry messes up the song' could also imply an anagram of larry and song? Does it?

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
Looks like JHM is away but here is a clue which may help solve this. Think of what part of a song is not the verses and then you have your anagram.

JHM was correct by the way
was he too obscure? sorry if so, just that I knew of him and wildly assumed that meant everyone else would have too

No worries, MfC. I am learning crosswords now.
Edit I had picked Rochus two days ago for a game elsewhere.

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
Olivier Rochus is correct.
Andy Ram was a bit obscure - I think I knew of him by last name only - but would not have got it without the 'doubles player' clue

I was missing. Guess I can no longer avoid my turn.
... and Santiago Giraldo is an answer to at least one question.
Here is my clue...
Cat who makes Dutch planes.
Not sure whether I should consider it easy or not, perhaps JHM will get it quickly if he is around.

Yes, you are correct. Trying to remove the 'F' was a bit of a pain. I knew you would get it.

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
'cut model'. Does it imply 'model' or it's equivalent being split into two or more words, like 'del mo...'?
'Rich about'. Perhaps Rich or it's equivalent gets added to the above?
