Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
First topic message reminder :
Let's see how this pans out.
First person to get the confirmed correct answer gets to post the next clue. No need to give the number of characters in the name, but the clue must be for the first and last name (although variants of first name are allowed e.g. Andy or Andrew)
1. Delivered without Jay, a robot, without Cy.

it's one that's based on simulations of random variables to estimate certain parameters, if that helps.

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
Carrieg4 and I are perhaps lightweights on this crossword puzzle business. Where is JHM?
'mixed up beginning' ?
MC (short for Monte Carlo) leads me to McEnroe?
Does John McEnroe work?

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
I'm here, but stuck (that's not a clue, that's a description!)
It could be a clever anagram of beginning, or begin with 'Mu'.
The stat method would seem to be related to the Monte Carlo method e.g. the Las Vegas method, unless it's related to the place i.e. Juan Monaco, but I don't think that's it, because I can't figure out 'Juan'.

I wonder if the folks who cracked the Enigma were any good at crosswords or just math geeks?

oh dear, it seems this was a particularly obscure one, sorry about that. Beginning refers to the beginning of the year in fact.
