Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
First topic message reminder :
Let's see how this pans out.
First person to get the confirmed correct answer gets to post the next clue. No need to give the number of characters in the name, but the clue must be for the first and last name (although variants of first name are allowed e.g. Andy or Andrew)
1. Delivered without Jay, a robot, without Cy.

Santa (Nicolas) Kiefer?
(The Eisner reference has now forced me to think about German players).

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
My bad, JHM.
It's all wrong? 'its' all wrong = anagram of 'its' ?
It's all wrong? incongruous, misplaced, jumbled, chaotic, topsy-turvy?
i.e. Santa lies? St. + ie + 'lies'? Stiles? Elite? Sometimes it is used as a middle initial/name e.g. Yves St. Laurent?
Any hints would be much appreciated?

The whole thing is an anagram - that's why it's all wrong.

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
I had posted a clue, I thought. Perhaps refreshed the page to lose it.
Clue - Iron man conquers the giant.
Active, Male.
(Hopefully it is not a bad clue. Refers to Mythology).

Let me see now.
Greek Mythology the Titans inc. Prometheus, the Cyclops.
Conquered by an iron man. Well there was an iron age in Greek Mythology?

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
No, JM.
Think of words that mean 'Iron' in different languages.
Mythology has many giants and some very famous battles.
NB... there are many 'books'. Greek or Roman Myths are a choice, but there are others.

Correct.

You are correct. David and Goliath and slings is not the same as Odysseus and Cyclops and hanging under the belly of giant sheep.
We can split hairs whether religions belong in mythology or not. .

It is turning into a Romance novel.
He go short-changed = robbed, duped, stood-up, left high-and-dry, double-crossed, jipped(gypped)?
Rob(ert), Rob(son)?
Jack's son - Another Jack? John?

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
It's not a word that means short-changed. That part of the clue is more literal than that.

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
No. 'Jackson' is the clue to the first name. 'Short-changed' is the clue to the second name - interpret that bit literally, rather than looking for a synonym.
