OWGR - Week #2 - Page 2 Empty OWGR - Week #2

Post by princedracula Mon 16 Jan 2012, 7:16 am

First topic message reminder :

I think it would be fair to say that it hasn't been one of the most exhilarating weeks, but still, congratulations to Johnson Wagner and Branden Grace for their deserved, albeit rather unexpected wins!

Wagner jumps up more than 100 places to #92 and Harrison Frazar is the second new top 100 this week (#82) as a result of his T2 finish. Nice upward movements for the other 3 joint runner up finishers at Sony - Howell Three Sticks, SO'H and Pettersson, who is returning into the top 100. But a bunch of other players are slipping quietly out of the picture this week: Ross Fisher, Tommy 2Gloves, Tim Clark, Steve Marino... hopefully not for a long time. And it's a very nice jump up into the 160s for young Branden Grace from South Africa.
Otherwise, the European quartet at the top remains undisturbed, Tiger stays at #25, but the slump continues for Padraig, looking now destined to dive down into yet another owgr 'decade', the 90's, by the time he will tee off next week in Abu Dhabi...

The OWGR table after week #2 should look like this:

Pablo Martin's round today: 2 bogeys, 4 double, one triple and one quadruple = +17! Superb!!

Looks like a tough day out there and things are very unpredictable still, with Grace moving in the wrong direction...

No TV coverage here, yet, but scores are all over the place.

Distinct signs of cream rising to the top; Schwartzel needs to concentrate on his opening rounds. Terrible last week which resulted in missing the cut.

Pablo Martin only just broke 50 on his back nine!

Suddenly the South African heavy weights are clogging the top of the LB, including Ernie. Great to have Ollie still among them... and Harrington who just birdied the 15th, although the prospect of him playing the last 3 holes again is giving me shivers already...

Ooollleeeee, Ollie!

...ah, forgot you said you can't watch it... Ollie just birdied the 14th after his drive went way to the right and ended on the edge of a concrete path, had a totally blind 2nd shot from there which ended at the back edge of the green and then holed a very long, partly downhill, putt from there! Superb!

After watching a bit of this today, I really think Fancourt is a great golf course. Looks good on the eye and sets up for some really exciting golf, specially when you add a bit of wind like today. From eagles (Charl almost shoot an albatross today) to triple and quadruple bogeys, you get a great mix of shots and scores, very enjoyable to watch... Ollie was putting a show out there today, pitty about the double at the 17th, but great recovery with a birdie at the 18th. So, it's Grace and Colsaerts in the lead, but they are followed very closely by 7-8 major champions... Should be a great final round tomorrow!

Back to your 7 major winners in the top 9; shame DC couldn't make it 8.

Lots to gain now, not that much to lose, given the separation.

Anyone watching the Volvo champions?

Looks like it might be a nice battle between The goose and charl.

Looks like we can also add colsearts, els, and JMO into the mix after a slip up from goose and charl. First really exciting golfing action of 2012?

Jinxed Ollie Sad
Not happening for Padraig, so looks like it's gonna be down to Goose and the Saaffers, with Ollie and Colsaerts still in the frame...
Glad to see that Matteo finally figured out how to play this course, great round today.

Goosen trying hard to play himself out of this; a good finish this week would go a long way to securing a place in The Masters, but going in the wrong direction right now.

Obviously Ernie's heard that King Charl hopes to cook a South African braai at Augusta, and fancies helping Charl as guest celebrity chef.

Doubt a win this week will quite be enough for a return to the Top 50, but every little bit helps!

No bogeys on the back nine for Els this week so if he can birdie the two par fives remaining he must be in with a very good shout.

pd, !!!

Very impressive win by Amazing Grace!
How special was that for him, to beat two of his biggest idols in a play-off in his home town, and get €350,000 for it as well!!

Much more satisfactory than watching the denouement in Manchester, I'm sure.
No grace about the way Manchester City went about their business. What a disgrace, in fact.

Great for Grace, positive steps for Erns and Retief.
And J-M O up from #596?

Ollie up around 180 places...Podge up to #86, but only if he's lucky...

Would think only Ben Crane with a top two and Mark Wlson with a win (possibly top two?) have a chance to reach the top fifty from the Humana.

In theory there may be 1-2 others, but realistically, only those two. Both could make it with a solo 2nd place...
