The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Nigel Walker, Stephen Ferris, and Planet Rugby's team of the round above the bar!

Thomond,
There's no point in trying to teach Gibbo any Irish History. He was there when it was made.
In fact, he probably started all the bother!!

Depends what you're looking for,Honeymonster. Drama wise and US tv wise, the Wire is great, I enjoyed the Sopranos and heard good things about Six feet Under. Comedy wise, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Community are great.
Hughie, depending on who your source is it was either a heart attack or brain haemorrage or stroke.

It wasn't until the executions that public mindset changed ,all over Ireland. Also the Conscription issue helped later too. Kia can put me in my box if she likes but I'm pretty sure I'm correct.
The Pale is where it all kicked off and finished T. The Capital, will always be, The Capital.
Even Belfast knows that by now. Why cant Cork?
In History, Cork is like Ireland's Dallas.

It's still the best city in Ireland though. There/s more than one reason why Dublin and it's surrounding areas are called the Pale. It's due to it being dull and boring.
I don't think MrsP will take kindly to being called a guy Gibbo!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Hey Thomond,
Ideally am looking for Drama/Crime or Drama/Thriller. Yeah have heard of The Wire and watched part of the first episode the other day. Think I just need to give it more time. Having said that I do like the realism that a BBC series brings and so am hoping there is something along the lines of what I mentioned that I have simply missed. All of The State of Play, The State Within, Luther and Sherlock were on TV a good while before I realised they exixted, I only came across them later. But yeah I should prob give The Wire a crack if I can't think of anything else.
By the way whoever mentioned Stargazing Live - Good call I badly need a telescope!

Talking of music by the way, one lesser known tune by good oul van the man is this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eVZIVir1ZE . Is feicin brilliant, one of my favourites
Was in two minds about whether to even mention Van Morrison when putting the above link up. Basically because I realise some people can be put off by him, if that's the case still don't let it stop you, is great trust me!

Heard about that Hugh, supposed to be decent. I have been watching some American football the last few days and considering both America and Ireland are both pretty poor economically, the bang for your buck is a lot better in America. 2 main courses and a starter for $20 you could be paying that for one in Ireland!

A guy in work metnioned Mrs Brown's Boys and he did say that it seems cr@p at first but ended up really good. Have to admit I gave it 5mins before I just had to turn it off! I literally could not take any more even though it may well be good if given the chance!

Dreamer, I don't like it but I think in general it is something Irish people will like. It has a very strong Irish theme to it. We all had an aunty/Nan/Mammy like that.

Rava... the rock!

Just measured it: 2.6m x 1.2m x 0.8m. Would have made a mess of the car; the back of which was less than a meter away!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
All the other characters are kinda Irish stereotypes aswell. It has always struck me as an Irish show/format. It's popular with the oldies over here.
From a fella on Munsterfans
From a fella on Munsterfans
Can't believe all the half (3/4..?) empty glasses still lurking around here. Lads, ease up, we won. Might not have played champagne rugby or gotten a 4 try BP (do we often..?), but 'it's better than playing great rugby and losing.
And Munster was always like this.
We don't have Ferraris or Lamborghini's, so we should never try showing off down O'Connell street or if we've to go up to the big smoke we'll park at the Red Cow and take the Luas before going incognito down Grafton Street. This isn't X-factor, 'tis rugby as we know it.
As I see it we've a mixture of something between a John Deere and a Ferguson 20 up front, out back it's between a Skoda (Octavia TDI with a few dents...) and a trusty old Carina II. Not the flashiest, fastest nor most up-to-date, but reliable and getting the job done in the end.
Now where did I put my keys or shure maybe that old screwdriver will do.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I understand you're point Thomond about the Irish connection, that was even obvious from first 5mins. But that still doesn't mean any Irish person will be able to get over how cringeworthy it appears to be. To be fair I really can't give a reliable opinion after just 5mins but that is how it seemed it would be like to me. Dreamer you will have to let me know after you have seen a full episode. Or Thomond if you have watched a good bit of it is it cringeworthy throughout?
I do realise though that the cringeworthy element may well be intentional and maybe it's that that makes it work overall in a weird way. But if the makers of the show aren't intentionally making it cringeworthy then I don't think I could take it. Guess I will just have to watch for myself properly and see. Come to think of it it kind of reminds me of the show that Ricky Gervais' character produced in Extras. The one with the character who had the catchphrase ' Is he havin a laugh?' lol

Monster, as I have said I don't like it. It is a bit cringe but I can see why people particular those older heads like it. It reminds them of their youth I think it is based on the main actor's real life family.

I just showed a Japanese guy who was down in the garage. His jaw nearly hit the ground!

Really looks like it's trying to break out too!
