The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Nigel Walker, Stephen Ferris, and Planet Rugby's team of the round above the bar!

Hughie, I think the final will be a trip I will be willing to make either way.
What's the date again? I will provisionally book it in.
any chance of a floor if I do? - No hassle if not like..
Mickado. would it an option for you?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I’m aware there are a lot of ifs, but I don’t care:
IF Leinster beat Montpellier
IF we get any of the teams that look likely to get the 7th or 8th seeds
IF we don’t have an injury crisis during/after the 6nations
IF we get drawn at home for a semi final
Then I could conceivable see us getting to the final.
I’m not even going to IF that one…

There's floor space at mine in the unlikely event of Hughie's Inn being full.

One of the drawbacks to my job is that I need to be on standby for work for HEC Final. Its great to get to matches as part of work but it also means lessof the 606 meetups.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Stag - ah but sure you could meet up with whoever's going to the final briefly, as well as work? will be time for both, no?
Unless I get a new job asap (which pays me more £££), there will be no HEC final for me this year.

Yea of course I could briefly meet up but not the same as last year for example.
Oh btw Shovey, I'll be in Cardiff for a few days in March.

Ah Mick, IF we make the final then we’ll be going to it.
I won’t even think about it now, but you can assume that from now on that if we make the final the answer will be ”yes, I’m going”.
I wonder will London hold the atmosphere as well as Cardiff or Edinburgh did…?

ah nice one! you coming over for one of the matches yes? (I think I remember you saying something about it before? )
Super Saturday is already looking like it's going to be complete carnage. Got my two best mates down to stay for it, and it's my flat mates birthday that weekend so he's going to have loads of friends over. messy messy messy is what it's going to be

Yea I'll be over for Wales v France. Appartently its a very popular trip due to the match in RWC and the fact its the final game.

so it would only be in Leinster make that you would go?
is there anyone going anyway regardless?
I don't think it will hold the same as those two Mickado.. too big a city too.
you seen it yourself when we went into central london after some of the games it just is too vast to have all the fans in one area.
Having said that you would keep an eye out on where the fan clubs etc are going to bass themselves.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
that's ace Stag. Wales v France matches are nearly always the best ones in Cardiff, the French fans that travel over are absolutely brilliant!
oooo 6 Nations time, it always makes me fall in love with the Diff again, just at the time when I've started to fall out of love with the place.

Micky - I would love to go the HEC this year but honestly as of this moment, can't see it happening. Will have to see closer to the time.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Micky - the trouble is that there is a lack of atmosphere with Twickers compared with Cardiff or Dublin or Edinburgh. The stadium itself is fine but you can't walk to it and the enjoyment of mixing with other rugby fans gets greatly diminished when you are back in central London.

We are are going, no matter who is in the Final.

Thats it, its such a great thing to get to. One of my all time favourite matches I was at was Perpignan v Toulouse in Lansdowne Road. It was my first HEC final and I was blown away by it.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Cool. well I won't be really going on holidays this year. so i think I might aim to attend the final regardless.
Yeh you are right Stag, it's not a great location and there is literally only a handful of pubs near by. or certainly on the routes we have taken in the past.

I'd love to go every year regardless, but i can't afford it unfortunately. But as i said, if we're there, i'll be there. I might have to walk there and kip in Kiwi's wheelie bin, but I'll be there come hell or high water.

I know what you mean Mickado. Il be saving from here on in for stuff like that.
my walking around money will dwindle significantly come this month onwards when I up my savings via a standing order..
Reckon its something that could be kept cheap enough with any luck if we do decide to go..
I just know with last year deciding so late could have been more expensive than it was. but we plotted a nice route to get there.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I read a very good piece the other day stag about the differences between Leinster this year and last year. Basically it was along the lines of last year they needed to get past Clermont Raving and Scarcens all before making the QF, and how this gave them that mental edge.
So far this year they havnt even come close to that intensity in the group and how itay possibly effect them in the knockout stages this. It's very easy to mentally prepare yourself for these big games when you've been doing it all season but to have to do it really for the first time in April is a big ask.
I would still fully expect Leinster to win any home QF or SF but having to travel to somewhere like Toulouse or ASM would really really worry me

Hughie thats actually very true. It was like in 2008 when Munster won cup we played Wasps, Scarlets, Clermont and then had to win away in England in both quarter and semis. It toughens you up.
Micky - don't forget HEC is in Dublin next year. Saves you cash.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I think they have had a few dogged games of late that are hopefully eye openers for them that there are tougher games to come.
I agree that last year they probably wouldn't have come back from the half time score against the Saints if they weren't able to call on the grit and resolve and belief that the games against Leicster & Toulouse particularly generated.
I don't think that because they haven't had a similar path this year would make them any less in with a shout of getting there.
last season wasn't that long ago. so they should be able to call on that in terms of negotiating through the QF etc.
Having said that, home advantage is really a big key that can't be ignored.

that is three offers we have had now Mickado. Kiwi, Hughie & Dave R mentioned it to me over Christmas

Dave R is a lad who used to be a barman in our local, but then moved to London with a buxom Tallaght beaut only to return at Christmas and for Dubs matches, we go back a long way, MickyT even more so. He’s good people, but Hughie’s gaff is HC HQ in my book.

that sums it up. I don't know him as long as Mickado though. but did go to NYC with them a few years back. Good People indeed...
I agree Hughies is ok by me
remember in Richmond Mickado when we convinced ourselves that we were saving money by getting two quadruaple vodkas and 1 red bull between us??
Then Dave R and his misus had been at a gig in earlscourt and came to meet us for a drink.
They turned up just as we were going out for a smoke. we said "sure we will be back in 2 minutes"
Two hours later we were still outside chatting away to all and sundry and they just passed us saying they were going home.
Felt pretty bad about that.
although not at the time cause we were sloshed and no doubt chatting to moths.
