The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Nigel Walker, Stephen Ferris, and Planet Rugby's team of the round above the bar!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Nervous as Flip PJ.
So confident last week it was unreal. Not so this week. Can't make up my mind whether we can get to within 7 points for a LBP or get a stuffing. The Clermont result against Aironi was a strange one. I didn't see that coming. I hope it means Clermont might be over confident and we may be able to catch them cold and put 10 or 12 early points on the board then tackle the Poopie out of anything that moves.

Rava, you need to believe in your boys, you ain't gonna get a stuffing and that's a fact. If anything the pressure is on ASM, they need to produce the result expected of the home team.
We're in HC knockout territory right now and I reckon Ulster have the tools to do the job, you'll be right enough; but don't you just love the flutterbys?
Gibbo ya beauty, . KK . Rava and the Ulster boys .

Nice grounding there brother. Everett was a genius waaaaay before his time, FAF.
Laugh all you like at my detox pal, as I've had my "toys" taken away for the last three nights I've been going to bed early. Unfortunately, my early cot syndrome has coincided with Mrs H's nightime viewing menu of reality TV.
If I ever witness another example of reality TV I will projectile vomit so bad I'll make the girl in The Exorcist look like a feckin dribbler.

I was in Ealing for Christmas/New Year. They (de wimmin) were 10 hours a day watching cookery programs by some z-listers, house fixing and selling, people controlling dogs for imbeciles, reality gobshites dancing on ITV (Not Strictly), fashion realted stuff, The Only Way is Essex(loved that). The Stuff people watch. I tink we're all phhoked Ted.
It was a Trip. TG the Pub was just around the corner and I had 3 rugby geezers and a Moll, fully in tune with that concept.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Leinster, for years, combined both until they were strong enough to stand on their own Academy products. Toulouse combine both. Big signings with local talent.
The thing is, there are literally no backrowers of any quality in our academy at all. There is no-one coming through. We should definitely have an NIQ backrow every year.
But those players mean nothing without the Chris Henrys, Paul Marshalls, Craig Gilroys and Darren Caves of this world. It's not about the three or four big names we'll have from overseas it's a whole team effort.

Notch, do you think a NIQ backrower each year is the answer to short term improvement of performance and results, or a means to an end for bringing on the talent in the academy?

Yeah man. I see that too. But, be nicer to achieve more self-reliance.
Hard work and a long process. But, I think the IRFU have just enforced it. Shame they didnt consult. That, in its present form, has to alter, to stop a farcial situation between the provinces alone.
What were they thinking? 1st time Ive ever heard McLoughlin and Schmidt speak out on Ireland.
It has to change.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
The solution has to be in the acadamies for me, NQ players have a role to play for the Province/Club in the first instance, but bringing in NQ players should always be hand-in-glove with the longer term purpose of working at academy level to bring through home-nutured talent.
In any other guise it can only be a short term solution that will run out at the end of the contract.

Both. But I don't think coaching or mentoring or anything will improve the current crop of young backrows. Too small, too lightweight, full stop.
Shame because there are some really talented rugby players who are just too damn lightweight.

Ruddock to Munster is the rumour actually. He knocked us back already.
Ulster are constantly trying to poach backrows from other provinces but literally no-one wants to move to Ulster. And I'm not surprised, talking to students from the South up here the image they had of what Belfast is actually like before they came is miles away from how the city is now. And those are the ones that actually did move up.
No problem selling the city to Saffers and Kiwis. Sure they all love it, Muller and Pienaar love living here. They're always on about it.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
It's a funny old thing the Heineken Cup.
The difference between this season and last could well be that last season, someone did us a favour on the last weekend and this year we might not get that.
That won't be remembered but we were just as much at the mercy of permutations in the other groups last year. We won't really have arrived until we win a group.

Ive been to Belfast a few times now. Love it. Cool place to be. It has a nice buzz. Like the Dam
So, I'm not suprised they do too.
The reason for the Southern players reluctance to move North, I think, has more to do with tax than anything else.

Man, got it in one. You know what this cup is all about.
I think the other 3 provinces will be screaming Connaught on this weekend.
Job done and then take on ASM.
Imagine.

There's that, aye.
I think Pienaar, Wannenburg and Muller- being such strident Christians- love the church they all attend and feel comfortable with the many Christians at Ulster like Paul Marshall, Nevin Spence, Andrew Trimble and Paddy McAllister.
So very different reasons for the appreciation of Belfast between you and them I feel!
