Injury rates are relatively unchanged in the modern era
A friend forwarded this link to me from the independent: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/rugby/rugby-union/news-comment/modern-rugby-no-more-dangerous-than-before-says-research-6290346.html
Basically going back to 2002, the findings show very little difference in the number of injuries per game. Tell that to the England team! Or Australia last year in the RWC! Or NZ's flyhalfs!
There does seem to be a perception though that the number of tests and club games per year and the greater physical makeup of the players nowadays is making injuries more frequently. This data seems to refute that notion.
I find the findings quite surprising to be honest.

The ratio has stayed the same but there are more games so there are more injuries. It's not suprising.
NZ had more 3 1st fives injured this WC compared to 2 last WC but importantly we had our 1st choice centre playing.
