606v2 Greatest Boxer of All Time
606v2 Greatest Boxer of All Time
In the poll above is some of the very best fighters from all era's of boxing.
A simple question, who is the best of all time?
I'm expecting a coin toss between Ali and Robinson, but you never know what these polls can bring!
Let the voting commence…

Have voted for Robinson but he is in a group of about three or four fighters I find impossible to split along aide Greb Armstrong and Langford.
Personally would also add Fitzsimmons to your list am not sure how many votes he will garner but he certainly deserves to be in the argument

Having noticed the absence of Peter Jackson's name, I immediately ignored this article as it's biased and massively flawed!

' Tis a thankless task you've taken on, AllTimeGreat.
jeff's miffed that Fitz doesn't get a mention ; Dave is equally miffed that his man Jackson isn't there, and I'm miffed that Eder Jofre misses out on a place in the Sun.
All academic, though, because I'd vote for Robinson as numero uno regardless of who might be keeping him company in your list of greats.

If you had given the Tyson option as Mike Tyson (87/88/99) he would have had to recieve 100% of the votes.

Heaven forbid, Scott.
That would be plenty sufficient for Ol' tysonking to grace us with his presence.

Re: 606v2 Greatest Boxer of All Time
I've went for Greb by a whisker, his resume is just out of this world.
Greb himself, Langford, Fitzsimmons, and Ray Robinson 4 of the very best and wouldn't grumble whoever was at the top of the pecking order.
Jeff is obviously mooting the above for 2nd place chasing the daylight of the leader Charley Burley.
Cheers

Don't be silly, Rodders.
Greb didn't exist and Burley only fought in black and white, so he couldn't have been any good. Haven't you yet cottoned on to colour TV, modern training, nutrition, evolution, ( beginning around 1980, of course, ) and the concept of the ' Prime ' Tyson ?
Fie for shame, you scoundrel.

Didn't want to mention Burley Rodders, he has obviously put a lot of effort in the list and would only ruin the debate to see someone run away with 100% of the votes

Decided to vote for my favourite rather than best, it's obvious to all that Robinson is a clear number one

Given yesterday's shambles, I fully expected to see the names "Percy Jackson", "Harry Potter" and "Nanny McPhee" on there

With respect it's a fairly difficult task to included every boxer to of ever graced the ring.
I feel the list above has variety of fighters from a number of era's (of whom are known by many casual fans of the sprorts), but if there is a serious uproar over ommited boxers, feel free to honour ever other greats I may have overlooked.
Thanks

No probs, AllTimeGreat.
My comments were only meant as a tongue in cheek appreciation of how difficult it is to include all the worthy candidates.
Sorry if it appeared that I was criticizing you. It certainly wasn't my intention.

Re: 606v2 Greatest Boxer of All Time
I personally have Robinson and Armstrong more or less tied for top spot, depends how I'm feeling but today I decided to plump for Hank. Greb just behind by the width of a fag paper, with Ali and Langford completing my top five.

Ray Robinson...Grebs resume is better but Sugar Ray was the most complete .Cant see Greb as the finer fighter..Armstrong,Louis and Ali very close though

I chose Chavez, simply because of the era I started getting into Boxing and of what I have seen of him. I am in no way doing the earlier guys a disservice because to be fair I never saw them fight. As such i don't feel I can judge what I have not seen...

That's fair enough Dave, it's a free forum you are able to do as you please. However, you could of chosen your words slightly more respectfully but I guess this is the Internet.
Re: Jackson. Great man/ boxer- yes. But never won a world title and was unable to defeat either Jefferies or Corbett. That was the reason he was omitted. Apologies if he would of got your vote. I accept the above list is aimed at the more casual boxing fan rather than a boxing historian.

No no. Please you do not need to apologise I enjoy a bit of jovial banter and this poll was designed to obviously spark debate.
Agree with some of the names mentioned above which should/ could of been included... However, I still think the fighters from the 80s/90s deserve more recognition than they get in the modern day. Roy Jones and Mike Tyson were truly exceptional at the peak of their powers.

Agreed. Fitz should of been included, a potential oversight by myself.
Out of interest- what would be your top 3?
Cheers

Since you ask my top three would probably be Robinson, Langford and Greb but with the caveat that Armstrong deserves to be in that mix and were I to answer the question on another day he well may be

I never voted for anyone I haven't watched live or who was a fighter before I started watching boxing in the 90's. I find it hard to judge how good they were due to never watching them or their opponents live. I went for Floyd Mayweather just ahead of RJJ.

No harm with swatting up on some of the old timers. You'll find some fascinating stories to keep you entertained.
You can pretty much tell how great a fighter is by the quality of his opposition. Anyone who dominated in the 1920's is pretty much seen as an ATG.
