The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Denis Hickie, Shane Horgan, Ben Morgan and Selorm Kuadey above the bar!

Castres didn't have anything to play for tonight and they certainly gave it everything. Their no 8 put in a monster performance.

Aye but the French have a lot of pride in defending their home patch. They can be disinterested on the road at the best of times.

I sort of really hope Edinburgh get through but really, really hope they are playing on the road!
The Heineken Cup has built it's reputation not just on the quality of the rugby but on these big games being played in front of stadiums packed with passionate fans. A game in Murrayfield would be bad for the image of the tournament.

I think Edinburgh will top the pool. They will get 5 points tomorrow and Cardiff Blues will only get 4.

Did you see the Gloucester game Ozzy? I asked two questions after seeing it - why hasn't Simpson Daniel got 50+ caps and why don't Gloucester play that freely more often?

Notch, heart always says the Exiles, but were are down to the bare bones in the back row, and I think we will get dominated at the breakdown and struggle for decent possession.
Glas, I only saw bits of the Glaws game as was watching Connacht, but JSD has so few caps as every time he has looked like getting a call up he has got injured. he has been the most injury prone English player of the past 10 years. In relation to how Gloucester play, they have a young side, so suffer the inconsistency that comes with that, but when they click, they have a backline than can rip anyone to shreds.

I concur. It was a bit like that. Some of Sanjays tackles in the 2nd half were incredible.
Rhodri - loads of talent, need to improve so much though.

At one point in the second half the French commentators in response to substitutions said:
"Jones et Davies...Williams, Williams, Jones Thomas oui! Thomas, oh de Galois "

Every time English sides fail;
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/9029861/Why-the-premier-English-clubs-are-failing-to-live-up-to-their-billing-in-Europe.html
Really gets up my nose! I'd post it outside, but we all know how it goes. Neither side wants to compromise on their argument, voices are raised, it goes on interminably. But this sentence really, really annoyed me;
God! Imagine all 6 of the nations who contribute teams to the tournament getting the same representation!
I actually think if we adopted the same model for qualifying it would be a mistake as we are only able to have all our internationals available together about 8 times a season and the different nations have different rules about player availability. The English seem to be under the illusion the Irish provinces choose to rest their international players. It's simply not our call.

Not while the four French and English representatives can be out-voted by a cabal of eight Celtic and Italian directors

It's not that clear cut Notch. The Rabo boys need the others and the posturing will continue forever and a day. It has settled now, it is the best club competition IN THE WORLD.

Have been saying it since the Senior Cup game in 07, he will be an international and a top one. (would be the first coloured person to represent Ireland, I think too)
Best backplay I've seen from us all season. An all-round decent performance, the scrum being a big negative. We're coming to put Ulster back in their box! Seriously great result for the Ulster lads today, missed the match but had Clermont by 5, so I'm having a good week on SG with my gutsy picks.
BLACK person. We are ALL coloured T.
Have to agree with Gibbo here. I understand what you mean Thomond as does everyone here but at end of day saying coloured is grouping everyong who isn't white into one big category which is not the right way to go about things. Don't get me wrong please as I am not having a go or something am just pointing out that it is not ok in my book to group people in such a way. and please understand that I do realise that you meant no offence in any way whatsoever. I am just pointing out the reason for not using such language.
And by the way you're wrong anyway about Zebo being the first ethnic minority in Ireland representing Irealnd on the rugby pitch, there was , and forgive my spelling here because is probably way off, Saverimutto who played scrum half for Ireland in the 90's. He was quite the welcome break from Michael Bradley and his above the head passes at the time-for me anyway!

yes, I'd love to see that, but it will never happen.
However I think the Rabo needs more negativity, in other words if you lose there are consequences. I'm not advocating giving away votes or starting places, but tying qualification to league placing. I know, I know all of the arguments!

Well, the brutal facts of it all are, there are 5 x PRO12 sides, 3 in, 2 more, still in with a great chance of reaching the HC QF's.
The weakest Irish team defeated Englands best team. The 3 top Irish sides, are ahead of the rest. Yes - even the French.
Our league is considerably stronger than theirs. No more room for tears, or crying Wolf, when it all goes wrong - everytime we meet in the HC. That argument is now dead and buried - for good.
P.S. Please inform Portnoy. Someone.
It would save so much time and energy.
The PRO12 - RULES.

Yep, all of them! All of them over and over again!
It will happen as Irish Rugby continues to grow. Once we get four teams in the playoffs and one of them doesn't qualify, thats when the watershed moment will come

No, MrsP, out of the hot tub otherwise I'd be a prune. But spent much of the day swimming in geothermal pools and wandering around snow-covered lava fields. Back onthe lookout for Rory tonite - should be a good one, cloudless sky nearly, will wake the kids up if it happens.
But back to matters rugby. Lots of congrats to those whose teams have done them proud, winning or losing. As forthe , - that is all
