The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Denis Hickie, Shane Horgan, Ben Morgan and Selorm Kuadey above the bar!

No Notch. We look like a team just going through the motions and our weak pool hasn't helped. Last year, we got through the hardest HC pool ever. We were stealed and primed, ready for Tigers and Toulouse. This year? Im concerned. We have not really been tested yet. Ye 2 - have.
We are SO ready to be hijacked. Its a classic case, waiting to happen.
Think Joe should make them watch the Connacht, Munster and Ulster games. Repeatedly.
I'm worried. Even with a home QF. Our HC heads are not on.
Yet.
We'll see what gives in the QF & SF draws tomorrow and after the 6-N.
I agree with a lot of that Gibbo. I feel like a broken record-player at times (doesn't work with CDs and other modern music media) but chasing kicks, getting to the breakdown quickly wins games; and if it doesn't it makes it an awful lot harder for the other guys to win. That's what Ulster did last week, Connacht last night and Munster today. The "wisdom" which says you can't win at rugby without a scrum was exposed tonight. Munster have been winning for years without a good scrum, but their lineout, breakdown and restarts have always been bang on the money.
Leinster sat back today from any number of close encounters, theye were to some extentjust going through the motions. However, they CAN turn it on when it is needed and they have the players and skills to do it, so I shouldn't be too concerned.
All-Ireland Final?
We sat back. Didnt put our best team out. Lot of players were thinking Ireland (not getting injured here) - not HC focused. Still cantered.
Its Rome ready to fall.

All Ireland Final? Dont think so.
Munster v Ulster QF? Toss a coin. It would be massive.
Us? We'll get better and win it again. I hope. Need a home SF.
Although no one away, should really concern us at this stage.
But it does me. Been watching this game for far too long.
My gut-instinct, is to put a few bob on Munster to win the whole thing. Then, go and say a few Hail Mary's of forgiveness, to St. Denis Hickie.

Kia, you can win games without a scrum but that was 14 soft points coughed up in that area alone. That will lose you a lot of games if it happens every week!
Not normally that extreme, but very few sides who can't scrum at all win much.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
As we are on the last page of this pub, and I won't be in tomorrow (got friends coming in for lunch) so that this will be my last visit for a wee while (till 6Ns starts), can I request that a photo of a great servant of Irish and Munster rugby should adorn the wall of the next pub.
John Hayes was known affectionaterly as The Bull to all Munster (and many other) supporters. Often the heaviest forward on the field of play, he started his rugby (relatively) late in life, played his first game as a flanker (!) after only one training session and hadn't a clue what he was doing. There are many who will say that when it came to scrummaging he never had a clue, but that would be ungenerous in the extreme. Tonight Munster showed that you can win handsomely when your other set pieces are up to the mark. The Bull was superb at lifting POC. POC's reputation as a lineout and restart operator owes a lot to John Hayes. Known as a gentle giant, the rugby world was shocked a few years ago when Hayes was suspended due to a citing for stamping - an incident which seemed totally out of character.
Hayes played his last HEC match in Llanelli last month - a game many of us here attended and retired from rugby at Christmastime. He is now full-time working his farm.
He is my candidate for the next pub photo.

I would love it if we were all in the same half of the draw. Can you imagine if the winner of the all Irish leg got to the final on the back of two interprovincial games? The fans would be so puffed up on bragging rights they'd float to Twickenham for the final. Save a fortune on airfares.

wrote a reply to this Notch and then lost signal ...
Other than saying that after today I am even MORE confused about referreeing of the scrums, I can't remember what I said.
Sky guys said Clermont were pushing Ulster fronmt row up - pen Ulster
Sky guys said Saints were pushing Munster front row up - penalty try Saints
I'm off to bed
Night all

Poite ruled Munster were coming up first. Think he was wrong but thats how it goes. He always, always seems to favour the team going forward.

Very good coach, but also a real sporting guy and an Ulsterman to the core. Would have been easy to come out and moan about the try but he doesn't even touch on it. And he's bang on in what he says.

Oh man. 3 provinces, crossing paths, fighting it out to get to the Final?
Cant believe I just wrote that. And its true. DONT SHOOT ME - but, I thought roysh, at this stage - it would be just Leinster in the QF's.
Honestly. When the draw was made.

I really can see the republicans throwing this election. And we have the nerve to think the politicians here are a joke.

They are too. The Reoublican party would fit Nelson McCausland like a glove.
We sleg off Americans for voting for them, well the DUP isn't far off the republicans in a lot of ways and loads of people here vote for them

Im not actually all that surprised. I didn't see us losing it and put my money where my mouth was. I bet on Munster and they have delivered. Thank you Paddy Power.
Im trying to figure out who has left to play, are there any guaranteed quarter finals yet etc?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Nay bother PJ.
Also as a Bath fan you'll no doubt disagree with me but every single person I met in East Midlands was amazing. Everyone at the match, the people at the rugby club where we watched the HEC matches, the management and players from East Midlands Rugby Union etc. Gentlemen/women every single one.
This one Saints fan looked heart broken when his 9 year old daughter asked me if she could have my Munster flag. The bandwagon begins once again.
Also anyone want to stay up til 6am keeping me company? Im sailing back through the night.

Stag,
Tomorrow, at 17:25 UK time, they are doing the draws for the SF's. Not the QF's. A split if you will. That will be KEY.

I wouldn't disagree with that in the slightest Stag, however, you should be aware of one simple facet of life out East; if they haven't sh!t on you, it's only because they forgot.
I almost felt sorry for the Sinners, in 2007, but it turned out to be heartburn.

I have to say I thought the match day experience in stadiumMK was dreadful from a Saints perspective. I dont mean bad atmosphere because of scoreline.
But before the match and everything very generic, very poor. It kicked off slightly in the immediate build up to the game but I had expected a lot better.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Stag, you could hear the Munster voice all the way back out West, it was feckin grand.
The MK is NOT, repeat NOT an atmospheric place to be at any time, but it does accomodate plenty of orses.
Money talks I guess, but it don't sing.

A dog doesn't Poopie on his own door step does he?
Aye why not have John "stand up" Hayes over the bar say I.
Bore da by the way.
Stag if you win the whole lot, it will be historic. As ever though, if the final was in a month's time you'd walk it. However the 6N will Flip you up, knackering/injuring your best players. Saracens to beat Leinster in the final.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
You've won all you pool games Stag, to win the thing would make history. The teams you meet now though won't be as flaky as your pool-mates.

Dreamer + Glas.....look away now:

Would be an impressive signing and I guess our marquee one if we got him, however I'd rather see Burns moulded so think he'd only be used to develop Burns somehow.
