Don't worry lb We are just setting the platform for Clarke and Ponting to choose the time of decleration!!!. Australia to declare at 275-3 with Ponting and Clarke reaching tons that their's by right!!!.

I hope you're right msp.
It's just that it would be asking too much for these two to put together another solid partnership and build an unbeatable lead.
At worst, we get bundled out for a ridiculous low score before lunch tomorrow with a lead of under 470, say. We'll need 500+ runs.
India would then have 5 sessions to make a go of it. I don't think anyone's playing for the draw yet.

Still think the follow-on should have been used, not many overs left in the day, bowlers could have had the overnight rest.

Yes, when I heard Mark Taylor going on about giving the players a rest after a long, hot day in the field (which it was) I was hoping Clarke wouldn't go down that path. Both Greig and Lawry said the same as you Skye - "ask the bowlers how they feel" first... they might have enjoyed another short burst of 13 overs until the close of play.
However, as it stands I'm not so worried about the overall outcome. Just the performance of our openers and No. 3.
Tomorrow it may be seen as a good decision to bat again and put more runs on the board - depending on the lead we have; by declaration or otherwise!

I think that the Aussies are well set up here. I should think that they would allow 4-4 1/2 sessions to bowl India out. Anything over a 500 lead would be nigh on impossible for India.

Re: Australia v India: 4th Test, Adelaide
billy, anything over 250 will be dificult, anything over 300 will be impossible. 300 seems like our new 600, crossing it is not very regular for us thee days you know? The Australian captain could have enforced an innings defeat if he didn't choose to bat, now it will be the margin of runs. That is all. That will give his bowling unit some nice rest, not that they were rosted in the sun for 2 days, and bowling on a late 4th day track is more enjoyable for the bowlers rather than starting it all on the late 3rd day. And you know, at least 1 test has to go to the 5th day if possible. The Indian batters seemed in no mood, so Clarke had to take it upon himself!.

Re: Australia v India: 4th Test, Adelaide
Do you think he just wanted to give Marsh a cement his record for the second worst series batting performance by a top 6 player ever?
Theres mor ethan enough time to win this and no sign that India are likely to bat past 400 second innings against a fresh attack, or that they are even that fussed about doing it.
Its a pit for guys like Khan, Laxman, Dravid, Dhoni and Tendulkar that they will leave Aus for the last time in a test series ( youd assume anyway) with such a crushing defeat. It must make the pain of the last series here even greater.
An Indian series victory in Aus would be up there with Englands Ashes retention.

The thing is msp, that India can still be very dangerous with the bat. I like nearly everyone else, am waiting for the Indian batting lineup to click and put a decent score on. I expect it nearly every test. 500 over 5 sessions will probably be enough for the Aussie to feel comfortable about a declaration

Its not over yet but the Aussies are well in command. Still suprised that they didnt enforce the follow on to be honest.

i was suprised to see that even with that 100, kohli only averaging 27 from his first 8 tests, he has hit a few 50's as well.

Re: Australia v India: 4th Test, Adelaide
Hes had a tough ride, his avergae shouldnt be counted against him. When you look at India over the last year really hes not had a chance to be judged fairly. If the golden boys cant manage runs then the new kid cant be expected to either. He'll get some slck yet, the century here should really emabress the likes of Laxman and Tendulkar though. Its them who should really care about this series.

These two are starting to up the SR and I think they will declare at lunch with roughly 160 -170 for??. Setting India about 500 with 5 sessions left.

OOh Clarke given out caught behind. Did not nick it though and a bad decision.
But to be fair to the ump, there was a noise-just not from the bat
Aus 112/4.

Re: Australia v India: 4th Test, Adelaide
Aus 167/5d and a 500 lead
Harris picked up the early wicket of Gambhir to leave India 14/1 and then Sehwag plays stand and deliver cricket just trying to smash every ball and making a mockery of Test cricket by trying to play as if it were T20.
For a captain, it is embarrassing.

Hi Skye, busy morning for me... running around.
I had the radio on in the car when I could but now I'm back home for a few hours.
I think Sehwag is simply going to play his usual way. Agree; it's irresponsible for the captain to lead by this example. Maybe he thinks he can reach the target? (I hope not)

Morning gents, it seems OZ will be wrapping up the test series today.
This is ominous for those countries who have to travel to Oz this year, I fear for my team.
I saw on the news last night that Gary Kirsten is sticking with Mark Boucher for the New Zealand tour, but has replaced Prince with Duminy.

Although this test is pretty much wrapped up, these two have the quality to make the Aussies sweat tomorrow. If they see this to stumps today. I would be more concerned if the Wall was in and looking good though.

So at least Marsh has made a contribution in this match.
