I can safely say I would never have got that one Windy.
Which fighter started his career as a flyweight, and retired as a heavyweight?

Okay, easier one.
Which heavyweight champion, not regarded today as having been lightheavy champ, fought and won a bout billed in some quarters and by some newspapers as being for the lightheavyweight championship, and duly claimed the title ?

Wouldn't be Tommy Burns, would it? I know that after he drew with O'Brien the 175 lb divisions wasn't recognized officially between 1906 and 1912, could he have made a cheeky claim to it then?

I know the 175 lb division was pretty fragmented in the late twenties and early thirties, so I'll have a guess at Schmeling.

Sorry mate, but no.
Small clue. The man GENERALLY accepted as the true champion at the time is often compared, stylistically, to the heavyweight who claimed the title.

Union gets it. Very well done.
Jack Dempsey's 1916 fight against Kellar at the Alhambra was billed as being for the lightheavyweight championship. The New York Times covered the fight and also supported the claim for the winner to be crowned champ. Jack Dillon was regarded in most quarters as ' the man, ' having claimed the title in 1914.

That's known as the 'scattergun' approach. Still, three more points on the board for me...
Joe Louis holds the record for the most consecutive heavyweight title defences with 25, but who is the holder of this record for the cruiserweight division?

In that case, I'll plump for either Wamba or Ralf Roccighiani (not sure of the spelling, mind you!)

Which British boxing great had a wife who often used to double up as a sparring partner for him in training?

Conteh isn't the one I'm after either, Galveston. I'll throw in a clue; as well as a wife and sometimes sparring partner, the fighter's wife would also go on to become his manager.

I'm guessing it would need to be a small fighter to spar with his wife, so I'll take a flier at Jimmy Wilde.

Re: Pass the Parcel Quiz.
Spot on, Windy. The 'Mighty Atom' used his manager wife for sparring too. Interestingly, she was the daughter of the old bare knuckler Dai Davies, who was the first thing that Wilde ever had resembling a coach of sorts.
And on we go.

We live and learn, mate.
On the death of an all time great fighter, news was wired to his manager. The manager immediately wired back :
" Start to count ten over him. He'll get up. "
Who was the fighter who had died ?

Not a clue, but that's a quality tale! I'll take a guess and say Billy Miske? Must have died relatively young if his manager outlived him, you'd assume.

Chris, Galveston,
Props to you both for excellent shouts, but our Ghosty has trumped you.
It was, indeed, Stanley Ketchel.
Very well done.
