Def thought Finn would play. This is the first time England have played two spinners in a four-man attack since December 2003.

Well good luck England, remember your number 1 ranking is under threat.
Australia is fast becoming menacingly good again, and SA is waiting in the wings later this year.

Let's hope the spin twins can come up with the goods.
Early wicket needed to get them worried.

Re: Pakistan v England 2nd Test
I see both previous test played at Abu Dabi has been drawn.
In the test between SA and Pakistan in 2010, South Africa amassed a first innings of 584 and Pakistan answered with 434, these two innings took 300 overs.
In the other test, Pakistan drew with Sri Lanka in October of last year, Sri Lanka got bowled out for under 200 in their first innings, and Pakistan got 511 runs courtesy of a double century by Taufeeq Umar.
But then Sri Lanka batted 168 overs for their second innings total of 483.
I wonder what the pitch conditions are like, another flat track?

Broad and Anderson did not threaten, but Swann and Panesar are spinning the ball a little and are looking good.
Strauss looks to have called it right with 2 and 2.

Re: Pakistan v England 2nd Test
Just wonder, with Tremlett gone home, would people replace him with another spinner? We have 2 seamers in reserve already, but no back up spinner espically as Swan & Panesar are bowling well and could be the way forward on this tour.
Bowling change, Broad back in, not sure why.

Lunch-
Pakistan 73 - 2
Fairly even morning, proably Englands for the fact that we taken the 2 wickets. And Swan & Panesar both bowling well.

Yes, the bigger they are....
Well just ask an Australian - you could barely hear the soft thump as they hit the shag-pile carpet.

I am not that slow my friend, do tend to struggle with the change of direction when the momentum is going, but when on course a 2 by 4 ain't gonna do the job.
I was never known for side stepping.
Opposing backline players usually got that sinking feeling when I stormed at them. It is like they knew this guy is going in one direction only, and they know they must know move out of the way. But, alas like a deer in the headlights of an oncoming vehicle.................
Well let me just say it wasn't a pretty sight.

We will never slap Bryce, it might just remove the last bit of dignity he has left.
Besides slapping him won't provide near enough satisfaction.
and you will have to drag it out, have the aniticipation of waiting for the slap kill him first.

Re: Pakistan v England 2nd Test
Good first session for England and it's good to see Monty Panesar back for England. I don't think the spin will last - the sun should flatten the pitch right out. Poor decision to bat first I think, this is the only decent day for bowling/

Let it slide mate... let it slide.
So what does everyone think will be a good position after this next session?
(besides all out 111) Around 140-150 with 4 or 5 wickets down? More or less runs... or wickets?
I reckon Monty will do well.

Re: Pakistan v England 2nd Test
Morning just catching up with this.
Winning the toss may well be a biog thing for Pakistan here. England wont be bowling them out cheaply, and they will be in all kinds of trouble if the spinners cant keep making inroads.
England wont have the advantage of the worn pitch in the second innings ( assuming they even get that far and dont get forced to follow on) . I really dont see what they will have done in teh last week to change their mental block against Ajmal, on the fifth day he might even get some turn then theyll be in all kinds of trouble.
Im feeling pretty negative about this one, at least the spinners have shown they are capable of taking Pakistani wickets but Im not holding out a deal of hope theyll rip through Pakistan any better than Pakistan will through England.

Morning all.
Have stickied this thread.
Honours even after first session, Swann and Panesar looking dangerous. A fast couple after lunch would be tremendous.
