When did Tom Wood officially get the england captaincy?
It might have been the worst kept secret in sport, but I didn't think they'd officially announced it.
Yet just checked the telegraph and they have the team captains photoshoot and there he is.
What do we think? Right or wrong call?

How can Wood be captain of England if he is "INJURED" Seems to stupid to me.

Injured for first two games the telegraph are reporting, but I think thats being incredibly optimistic.

Anyway, back to the question in hand. Didn't Lancaster say before the tournament that he would just take a senior player along and decide afterwards? Everyone knew that Wood would be a senior player in this squad, and with him being injured it meant that a fit player didn't miss a day of training. On the other hand, just because of the fact it is Wood it kind of confirms what the papers have been saying for a few weeks, that Wood was Lancaster preferred choice for the role and whoever does the job in the first two matches is only temporary. Without wanting to get too much flack I hope it's Hartley and not Robshaw.

Shame Floods injured as I'd have had him for a stand in captain.

I wouldn't have been particularly upset if Flood had done the job on a temp basis either. I think Robshaw needs to prove he deserves his place at in the international game before being considered as captain. Brian Moore wrote a decent piece about it, again in the telegraph.

Brian also recommended Dylan Hartley I would have a a couple of others ahead of him.

He was sent to do all kinds of shoots, right up till he got injured. Epic fail but they had to send someone
