Preferred 6N final standing
So we've had several threads discussing who will win/lose the Six Nations and who will come where this year.
My question is how would you like to see things turning out this year as opposed to how you think things'll happen. What's your preferable final table? Who would you like to see coming 2nd and 3rd behind your supported nation as champions? I have yet to see anyone honestly predict Ireland, France, Wales or England ending the tournament with a forgettable Wooden Spoon in 2012. Would you like to see any of those sides at the tail-end of the final table (of course preferably for the reason that they're your 'least favourite' team rather than your 'most hated' ). Better yet, who would you divert your support to to top the table if your side was to tumble out of the running early?
Here's a quick go at my fantasy final table:
1. Wales
2. Ireland
3. Scotland
4. Italy
5 and 6. Toss up between England and France
Although I've put Ireland at 2nd if we (Wales) win it I wouldn't mind seeing Scotland profit if we go down early. Getting used to the Italians in the Pro12 and seeing considerably less fireworks from Italy's reputed thugs (aside from Ghiraldini's gouge on Healy) this season I wouldn't begrudge them 4th place. Still smarting from the would-be finalists tag courtesy of the French and living in France would love the opportunity to wipe one in everyone's faces rather than everyone ganging up and wiping one in mine (a very common situation since the tragic day I moved ).

Re: Preferred 6N final standing
An ideal table would be a 6N with Wales, Ireland, Scotland France and England at the top on the same points with 2 narrow losses each and three hard fought wins with every side having contributed to a wonderful tournament full of engaging rugby (not a try fest but good consistently played rugby).
Sadly, like your table, it won't happen.

Absolutely concur Kia, what a great statement that would be!

I'd like to see Scotland win, but as always, we seem to be on the verge of perhaps acheiving something, but never quite there.

The day Italy wins it then we will know that another step has been made in making rugby a truly global competitive sport.

Not always true. Now that I'm married, I hope no one comes after me...

Obviously would like to see Ireland win(slam)
Italy to come second as they normally come 5/6th.
France to get the spoon, as they normally win it.

1.England (because I'm English) - grandslam (naturally)
2.Italy (because I'm a Tigers fan) - Castro top try scorer
3.France (entertainment value)
4.Scotland
5.Wales
6.Ireland (unless Geordie plays then they go third) - getting stick from the Irish people I know, need some retaliation material for the banter.

I like to see England do well. Teams get fired up by a strong England. I think in the last few years the tournament has suffered due to a weak English team.

Re: Preferred 6N final standing
My preferred 6N standing:
Scotland
England
France
Ireland
Italy
Wales
On predicted form and merit:
France
Wales
Scotland/England (I think more likely the latter)
Ireland
Italy
I'm a Scottish supporter (can you tell?) but I'd like England to do well, its never nice seeing what once was a great rugby nation going under. It makes me think back to the glory days of Scotland, although I think things are brightening up north of the border. I wouldn't like to see Wales do well (sorry Wales) its nothing personal, I just can't stand the idea of seeing Jonathan Davies bang on about how awesome Wales' Six Nations campaign was for another 2 years and how incredible certain Welsh players are (thank God wee Shane has retired!). I think Declan Kidney's honeymoon period with Ireland is up and it reflects in his squad choice, hardly any fresh faces. Thus why I'd predict them pretty low, although they probably will beat Scotland at home (it depends on Scotland's opening game with England, I think). France are by far the best team on paper and on pitch and have been for a while, I love the French flair, and its always great to watch France games, they truly set the NH alight, although I think Wales on their day really can fire up a game! Scotland, well as I said I'm optimistic, as long as Robinson makes the right choices I feel we have a good chance of coming 3rd, maybe even 2nd if we pull our finger out. All depends on the opening match at Murrayfield though, I feel like the reason Scotland have underperformed is because they keep losing their opening game, we have a good chance, we should take it. Can't say about England, I really don't have a clue!

Ireland
Italy (just because it's rightly fed up with the spoon (I know, you have to loose all games before you get it - as if that's a bonus!)
Scotland
Wales
England
Really is so difficult to separate these three mentally. Scotland could do with third but then I do like Welsh freeflowing fire and English downright never-say-die attitude and so get guilty whenever I place these in fantasy lists.
France - not because I don't like them but, like Italy, let them see what it feels like to have the Wooden Spoon championship for a change.

Nah, the "Wooden Spoon" is for last place. Losing all your games is a "Whitewash".SecretFly wrote:Italy (just because it's rightly fed up with the spoon (I know, you have to loose all games before you get it - as if that's a bonus!)

Oh so they can get the Spoon for just being last? They don't have to lose every game? Well, there you go. They're fed up winning the spoon.

132 points against Italy, Kick and Chase. That´s an awful lot of penalties!!! I imagine Italy would have very few players on the field infringing so much. Why didn't you go more for the tryline?!

True enough. I wonder what the record is for most amount of kicked penalties in a game.

Most penalties in a match: Matt Burke in OZ v SA (8 Pens landed). I'd of thought more than that though?!

Nice one Chjw131. 8 doesn't sound too many and yet it sounds a lot as well. Particularly for Australia.

I've never done the prediction games or betting because it stops me enjoying the actual match for what it is, but I am tempted...

I've never seen one with more than 8 penalties, but I've seen quite a few around the 7-8 mark. I think if you're kicking more than 8 you could make a case for extreme risk aversion ... you need pretty good possession, territory and dominance even for 8.
I guess if it's raining but mild you might kick up to 10...
