I got into it roughly the same time but from what I hear and read I would say Whittaker, De La Hoya, Jones Jr, Holyfield and Lewis had good shouts but i'm no expert!

Wasn't Roy Jones' prime during the 90s?

RJJ had hardly any names in comparison to those other guys, impressive though he was.

Whitaker and Jones seem the stand out candidates for me but a guy who tends to be overlooked but deserves consideration is Ricardo Lopez, partiucarly as his peak pretty much covered the full decade

Good shout rottley. I am ashamed as he is just about my favourite fighter and I totally overlooked him. Still think Whitaker would find a way to beat him but he deserves a nod.

Have to second rowleys - undefeated and some excellent opponents despite the comparitively small number operating in the minimum weight. Jones has a big shout because the big name opponents he did face - he battered em. Whitaker is of course there. Holyfield and DLH also.

Betwen Whitaker, Jones and de la Hoya I would say. Jones marginally I would say. Had de la Hoya beaten Trinidad like he should have then I would have gone for him. Lopez possibly worth a mention aswell.

Id go:

1.Jones
2.Whitaker
3.de la Hoya
4.Lopez
5.Trinidad

There are great videos on youtube, Daz. He is just brilliant and there is nothing the guy couldn't do in a boxing ring. Almost faultless.

Would agree with Manos' list except I would swap Whitaker and Jones around. Lopez was great but hard to place him pound for pound in comparison to the other names mentioned and I have him just pipped by De La Hoya.

Surely the fact that he never got near weighing in at 8 stone would push him up the pound for pound list?

Also, of his 26 fights during the 90's, 24 were world title fights.

Possibly, Union. However, the fact that he fought exclusively at minimum or light flyweight whereas the rest of the fighters mentioned (Trinidad less so) weight hopped their way through the 90's, I think, makes it harder to judge him on a pound for pound basis.

Great record and a tremendous little fighter but I struggle to place him ahead of Whitaker, Jones or De La Hoya.

Think Holyfield and Lewis deserve honorable mentions.....

Holy for the first half and Lewis for the second half....

The heavy champ is the baddest man on the planet and with two mainstays like these............certainly should be in any list.....

RJ for me..............

Im sure he is too busy for that at the moment. A man of his dashing good looks and charm that could make a backstreet brass blush is probably out romancing some stunner as we speak

Whitaker for me, certainly. Utterly dominant in a very good Lightweight division, not that much less handy at Welterweight, and probably faced a better level of competition than anyone else, too. Had justice been done against Chavez, his closest rival for pound for pound supremacy at the time, then I imagine he'd have been a lock for this 'fighter of the nineties' title. Absolutely love that first fight with McGirt; a real high-quality affair against a very fine Welterweight and in that very fine Welterweight's back yard, no less.
