Bath 46 - 14 Northampton
First topic message reminder :
Bath 46 - 14 Northampton
Bath are back, great win for the lads.
Is this the start of Bath's comeback, traditionally Bath always pick up a lot of points during the 6 nations and finish strongly to make the play offs.
Book the fat-lady!
I sense Bath could do the double this year, JEFF & The LV.
Is this the start of the Golden era for Bath rugby?

It also helps that Meyer is very much a forward orientated coach and was the man that made the Blue Bulls the force they were (hence Matfield being the head of his fan club). Bismark is going to have a great time in a Meyer forward pack as he'll get to do all the tight nasty carrying and smashing things he loves.
Looseheads available - Mullan, Jenkins, Effion Roberts (can play both sides) and Ospreys loosehead whose name escpaes me...
Hookers - Webber, Brits, George, (are both the Quins guys under contract)
Locks - Wentzel?, Kennedy
wing/fb - Agulla, Strettle, Voyce, Haughton?

Sam I thought effion roberts was going back to Sale.
Actually Jamie George signed a deal recently - not sure how long for though.

Ooops, forgot that Jenks had been approached, I'm expecting him to be the marquee signing to be honest and with a bit of luck Britz squeezed in as well.
Wouldn't fancy any of those wingers to be honest, Agulla away with 4ns, Strettle with England, Voyce and Haughton are rubbish.

Webber signs, as predicted, no Britz then, shame.

More bad news for Wasps then. First they lose Thompson to retirement and then Webber to Bath. Ward went to Sale last summer, they'll only have Lnidsay left! They'll be recruiting hookers with some urgency this summer.
Good signing for Bath though.
I'd heard he was keen on Wales so he could challenge for international honours. Then again money talks and both Bath and Sale are close to Wales.

Good news on the Webber signing, I hope his throwing in has improved since the last time I saw him play! Also good to hear that Abendanon has re signed for 3 years, on his day one of the best attacking threats in the league.
Now we just need some second row cover... Maybe Wentzel would like to get off the sinking ship?

Wentzel would guarentee you a class A lineout. He's certainly one of the top 3 (if not the top) lineout technician in the AP and might want more contract before retiring. A good leadership option as well.

Wasps must think highly of young Lindsay...which i can go along with aslong as he sorts his lineout throwing out.

I doubt they've had a lot of choice Geordie, they aren't in a good place financially and I'd expect money bags Bath could have out bid them without even raising sweat. Lindsay is pretty much the last hooker still there and was lined up as third choice at the start of the season. Wasps need to sort themselves out behind the scenes quickly otherwise they'll be relegated sooner rather than later.

That seems a bit crap of Webber to leave them in the lurch like that.

How is a player leaving at the end of their contract leaving them in the lurch? Thats what happens with all transfers in rugby.

Go on the Wasps board, nothing but praise for him, didn't see one comment begrudging him leaving and they all commented on how he always give 100%. Doesn't sound like a player leaving a club in the lurch to me.

Re: Bath 46 - 14 Northampton
Fair enough, I probably got the wrong end of the stick there.
I'm surprised it let me say crap as well...
Well a good signing for Bath, he does have a bit of a temper though and his throwing can be shocking at times. Is he the marguee player then?

Re: Bath 46 - 14 Northampton
As far as I'm aware a marque signing can only be either a foreign player from another club (this may have to be a non-English club) or an English player who's been at the club for a while.

At least he's a bit more physical than Mears...

Tbf though Mears was brilliant when he came on against the Saints. He's a good club man, just not an international.

Re: Bath 46 - 14 Northampton
You're right about Mears yappy. Webber can't be the marquee, has to be a player who hasn't played AP before. Webber isn't of the right magnitude anyway.
Mears has suffered from poor play from our props in the last few seasons, but the scrum has been brililant in the last month. All signs point to the marquee signing being Gethin Jenkins, which would sort out the scrum nicely.

Re: Bath 46 - 14 Northampton
I'd imagine that Webber would fit under the cap without a lot of issue so Bath wouldn't need for him to the marquee option. With Dixon going and the cap rising a little dependent on the number of academy players etc then there should be room for Webber easily.

Re: Bath 46 - 14 Northampton
Yeah, plenty of room to be honest, won't be a bank breaking contract like Ashton or Attwood. Dixie on a good wedge anyway.
The best news though is that Abendanon he re-signed for 3 years, that's like a new signing!
