Striking Partnerships
Over the history the premiership, who do you think has formed the best partnership?
For obvious reasons Sutton & Shearer immediately comes to mind for what was accomplished at Blackburn.
Once formed and the natural understanding kicks in, a partnership can sometimes be unstoppable.
Which partnerships have impressed you passed & present and why?

Re: Striking Partnerships
A successful pairing up front is often at the heart of a side’s success and if they develop a mutual understanding can prove greater than the sum of their parts. I have chosen three pairs:
Cole and Beardsley
Together they hit 59 goals between them as the Magpies secured an impressive third place finish, playing some exciting football on the way - a far cry from what is currently going on at St James’ Park.
Cole and Yorke
In the three years at the club together these two would often combine quickly and unlock defences by instinctively knowing each others positions. They hit 35 goals between them in 1998-99 as Alex Ferguson’s men marched towards the treble. However, would they really have scored so many without the great service from Beckham and Giggs? I suppose you could argue that with any strike partnership.
Henry and Bergkamp
Arguably the most complete strike partnership Thierry Henry’s speed, finishing and moments of magic combined with Bergkamp’s sublime skill and inventiveness to devastating affect for the Gunners. Although they didn’t score as many each season compared to the previous partnerships, Bergkamp and Henry set up as many as they scored.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Eider Gudjohnsen
One of my favourite partnerships growing up, IIRC they got a lot of goals when playing together. I think JFH was quite unlucky on the international stage as well because at the time there were so many great Dutch strikers: Bergkamp, van Nistelrooy, Kluivert and Mackaay who were all awesome.

McCoist & Hateley
Just Awesome partnership so many goals, Hateley a powerful striker and the legend that is McCoist with that knack of being were ever the ball was to score. (still looking for exact figures on goals as a partnership)

Re: Striking Partnerships
Larsson and Sutton - Sutton classes Larsson as the best player and striker he played with and with over 100 goals in England Sutton went up to glasgow with a formidable reputation apart from one fruitless season at Chelsea, in 4 seasons together they won 3 leagues, two Scottish Cups and a League Cup, they helped the club to only there 3rd Treble, helped them Qualify for the CL for the 1st time and got to a European Final, they scored 241 goals in 4 seasons together Larsson with 173 and Sutton with 68

Beardsley & Ferdinand
Cole & Yorke (Man Utd)
Bergkamp & Henry
Wright & Smith
Zola & Vialli

Hopefully in the future we'll be including Suarez & Carroll in there too!

Re: Striking Partnerships
I know it's not a quite a partnership in the common definition, but the Tevez, Ronaldo and Rooney trio of 2008 was the best forward set-up I have seen in the PL.

Re: Striking Partnerships
A shout for Kevin Phillips and Niall Quinn at Sunderland during the early 2000's?
Phillips himself was on fire in the Prem.

Re: Striking Partnerships
Sutton and Larsson were an excellent pairing maybe a bit under rated becase they played in Scotland. Prbably the 2nd best in Britain between 2001-2003 only behind Bergkamp and Henry.
