How much longer can England tolerate a passenger captain, particularly with such uncertainty over the number six position?

are the two things even related ?

the simple answer to the strauss situation is i dont see anyone to replace him with who would be better as captain or opener

They could go with a top order of Cook, Trott & Bell.

My basic point is that they're already carrying one passenger realistically at six, so they can't manage another one - the batting order simply isn't strong enough.

i dont agree putting trott as opener is a solution and it still doesn't answer the question who do you replace strauss with as a batsmen anyway, we already have limited options to replace morgan let alone strauss as well

in addition cook as captain doesn't not fill me with alot of confidence

wish people would stop thinking that just replacing people is the answer , the top 5 are the best options we have available , they just need to play better

Someone give India a call, they have 4 of them.

If England had managed to develope an opener who looked worth a spot since Cook ( even he tok a while to really settle in ) it would be a lot easier to replace Strauss. If England werent at the top of the rankings for teh first time ever and hadnt retained the Ashes for the first time since the 1700s it might be easier to replace Strauss. If the England capatincy wasnt a poisened chalice that destroys teh batting average of anyone who gets lumbered with it might be easier to replace Strauss.

He will certainly be retained for Sri Lanka. After that his place should be reviewed, but replacing him isnt goign to be easy. Worst case perhaps is that he does "just enough" to keep his place in a losing side which hasnt found a repalcement for Morgan followed by another summer of flumping.

The comparisson with Vaughn is to some extent fair, although at least Strauss hasnt let his ego get in the way of quitting ODIs.
