SNOW in edinburgh on saturday
Looking at the weather report for edinburgh on saturday it is almost cetain to snow and it could be heavy as well...
This could have a huge impact on the game. Much has been said about Scotlands selection of Parks at 10, certainly a kicking fly half and some people have been critical of Robinson for this 'percieved' conservative selection. It now seems that it may just be sensible. This is the 6 nations, this is February in the UK, often conditions are not right for expansive running rugby, if England get caught in the mindset of a loose game they could be made to look very foolish!
Scotland have a bit of a reputation for utilising the weather to their advantage, especially at Murrayfield, I wonder if they'll be happy to see it snow?

I can't believe it, why didn't the RFU look at the weather report before giving the job to Lancaster, Who would have thought that it could have snowed in February! Especially in Scotland!
England might as well not turn up.

Re: SNOW in edinburgh on saturday
hodgeson is capable of a kicking game i guess.
But all this build up and talk of A more dynamic england maybe pointless.
A running game in a foot of snow wont get you very far, looks like we will be subject to another scotland vs england bore fest!

1 foot of snow and the games off, even if 1 foot of snow doesn't register in Scotland as real snow.

Of course Scotland will want it to snow.
Bad weather is one of Scotland's greatest weapons in their armoury.
When it rains or snows the Scottish team has a much higher chance of winning because they are bad weather specialists. It suits their style perfectly.

1 foot was a slight exxageration on my part. simply wanted to illustrate that snow will affect the ability to play a running game.
i would be gutted if the games was abandoned though.
beshocked- i wonder if parks was selected with the conditions in mind?

Re: SNOW in edinburgh on saturday
HQ matt that could well be the case.
Yes aslongasbut100ofus yes I genuinely believe it.
Scotland traditionally have always played to their strengths - big pack, kick for territory, eke out penalties. Scotland struggle to score tries. Everyone knows that. Bad weather suits Scotland's traditional strengths. Obviously it is much harder to play expansively if the weather is poor. The Scottish pack is stronger. England's advantage is in the back three - poor weather negates this advantage partly as they will be less likely to keep hold of the ball.
Scotland relish the arm wrestle and it's the way they will target England.
The weather is also part of home advantage. The Scottish will be used to it. Pyschologically it's a huge strength. Scotland's win against South Africa was in appalling conditions.
It simply makes Scotland a harder side to beat.
Is it a coincidence that Scotland struggle away from Murrayfield?

Re: SNOW in edinburgh on saturday
Jesus Christ, you would think that it never rains in England!
Scotland have struggled at Murrayfield too you know......we struggle in general cos we're pish.
We do not use the weather as a 'weapon'. We play to the same game plan even if it's bright sunshine and 30 degrees!!!!
These are professional players - if they can't catch the ball in the rain, it's because they're garbage.
Whoever wins tomorrow will be because they played better rugby and scored more points than the opposition - not because it rained a wee bit.

Scottish weather who can forget Andy Nicol's 2000 post match pitch side interview with blue lips chattering teeth and the shivers he was one step away from hypothermia mind you the whole English side caught a cold that day being too affected to come out and collect the 6 Nations trophy .

Re: SNOW in edinburgh on saturday
Tattie scones do you genuinely believe that the conditions have no impact on the game? Players slip, the ball is indeed harder to catch, harder for players to keep their footing. An increase in errors is inevitable.
It is harder to play a more expansive game if the weather is bad.
I personally think you should always play to the conditions.
Of course it rains in England but it's been relatively dry recently.
The weather is indeed a weapon for the Scots because it helps with the gameplan.

Re: SNOW in edinburgh on saturday
The thing is it rains in Scotland A LOT more than in England, so the players grow up playing in those conditions. Of course they have an advantage when those conditions happen.
That's not to say that if Scotland win they won't deserve it or that they're not the better side.

Well, with all the Sarries in the backs, it'd make sense. Bit similar to Scotland's kit. Plus if we wear white we might be camouflaged and the Scots won't be able to tackle us

Well we'd better start expansively and try and get a lead before half-time, then move Farrell to 10 if he can cope with the size of the game and use JTH and Barritt to bosh the ball into contact

When was the last time any of those guys played?
Its pretty obvious that for the past 10 years or more Scotland have played a very forward orientated game.

at least the pitch wont be frozen and temperature around -7 degC with Siberian winds like in Paris. Would hate to be wearing the 11 or 14 shirt with this kind of conditions , no doubt the forwards will get cuddly !

Snow in Edinburgh. Just my luck! It´s freezing here in Spain and you´re experiencing a heat wave in Edinburgh with unseasonably mild conditions.

If the game is really kicking based and one of the players gets bored, is there anything in the rules against building snow defenders or a wall or something in front of the try-line? Or a giant tower of snow to block the goalposts...

I think he was pointing out, very obtusely, that you didn't say rugby stadium and suggesting that Norway's football stadium, given it's prestige and the low temperatures at that latitude, might have had undersoil heating before Murrayfield?
