Rugby to NFL
First topic message reminder :
Interesting article i found on scrum.com

Personally i don't think he has the physique, athleticism or the skill set to play in the NFL but hey if he makes it then good for him.
So with the Superbowl coming up on Sunday and everything i was wondering which players people think could make the transition to the NFL and/or vice versa.
I'll start the bowl rolling
Rob Gronkowski to rugby. This guy is a monster! Check out some youtube vids. I think he could make a great blindside flanker.
Stephen Ferris NFL. I don't really know much about the positions but i think he has the pace and size to fit in somewhere!

Saracens lock Hayden Smith is hoping for a switch to the NFL following workouts with the New York Jets and the New Orleans Saints.

Re: Rugby to NFL
Would a second row be fast enough for that? I haven't watched Smith carefully enough to notice. I know TEs don't have to have wide-receiver pace, but they still have to get some separation from the defender. To be honest I've spend a hell of a lot more time playing Madden than watching NFL, so I could be wrong about stuff, but I thought Gronkowski was pretty fast as well.

Depends on the second row. Ali Williams, maybe. Don't know how fast this bloke is.

Re: Rugby to NFL
Apparently hes been timed in the 40-yard dash at 4.75 to 4.82 seconds.
While Gronkowski runs it in 4.65.

Re: Rugby to NFL
That's not too bad then, and he could probably improve it if his training was geared towards NFL needs rather than rugby.
