Sky Coverage
It amazes me how a team of so-called experts can talk such utter gash when analysing fights. Now I was actually pleased when Sky freshened up the team with Mcguigan, but he was the worst of the lot on Saturday.
"That punch would have knocked out a horse". Really, Barry? That cuffing shot that barely touched him...
Now I understand Sky will want to big up the K bots for potential future PPV's with Haye, but that was just nonsense. Barry might as well have got his knob out and started knocking one out, poor showing. Is it to much for fans to expect proper analysis?
Who would you guys like to see introduced to the sky team?

Roy Jones, Manny Steward, Teddy Atlas, I even hear Tarver is pretty good but not heard him myself.Lumbering_Jack wrote:Who would you guys like to see introduced to the sky team?

Wouldn't mind seeing George Foreman, Sky certainly don't shy away from being bias or selling fights at times.

Teddy Atlas talks too much. Old George would be a good shout.

Re: Sky Coverage
So basically the HBO team then Scott....
That would be impressive if they managed to pull it off, dont see it myself however.
I quite like Jamie Moore and Spencer Oliver, maybe they good be given more prominant roles. Richie Woodhall as well would be a good shout.

I really like Teddy Atlas he is top class on ESPNs friday night fights. Would like to see more of Spencer Oliver. Maybe a new job for Junior Witter he was never short of things to say

Shame Mayorga hardly speaks English, would be interesting to hear what he would have to say.

Re: Sky Coverage
Yeah basically, on HBO the coverage is so much better than Sky. Just one of them would do, Darke is decent enough at shot by shot but you need someone better as the 'colour' commentator, because noone Sky puts out analyses the technical aspects, just who is throwing more punches etc. Jones is brilliant at that, Steward is good for the general pattern of the fights. Atlas is better for preview type stuff rather than commentary, despite the annoying things he does and sometime bias he really understands boxing.
Richie Woodhall and Jamie Moore they have but only get bit parts. Bob Mee just reads the rules every week, although he got a bit more on the last one. McCrory is useless, so is Nelson, Oliver etc, don't offer any insight. Dave Darts is just a talking head and doesn't know the sport close to someone like Brian Kenny who is in a similar role.
If you watch the same fight on Sky and HBO it's amazing just how much Sky miss. I never get the feeling of 'oh, I didn't notice that'.

Re: Sky Coverage
I agree Scott, HBO's coverage is far better than Sky's.
Sky generally dont offer any decent technical insight which is a pity.

Re: Sky Coverage
I agree would love to see much more technical analysis of the fights. Bob Mee was decent when he done eurosport but has an absolute pointless job on sky. A guy like Nelson clearly knows his stuff think he's just told to keep it simple not get technical. Don't think the pundits are nescessarily the problem think it may be the producers of the show.

Re: Sky Coverage
It might be a bit cruel, but It would be interesting to see Vitali fight an actual horse for his next fight, then Barry's theory could be put to the test.

Re: Sky Coverage
Might be cruel on vitali, if he lands a punch and it doesn't take the horse out, the horse will kick him out of the ring!

I think the horse should replace barry on the panel for a week, there's already a couple of donkeys.

I see him jabbing the horse from the outside throughout the night, with the occasional right every now and then, and the German crowd cheering emphatically with every blow landed on his equine foe.

Haha brilliant. Usually Barry doesn't try and predict things because he usually looks like a fool, oh well...

Thats true but the horse has a massive reach and speed advantage.

Re: Sky Coverage
Personally I quite like the Sky commentary team and their pundits. OK, maybe they don't discuss the technical aspects of fights in any huge detail, but they have a passion for the sport and do a decent job towards building the fights up. Let's face it, predicting fight results is a pretty tricky thing to do. Jim Watt, who is probably the most technically minded pundit/commentator on the Sky team is constantly getting his predictions wrong and/or scoring completely different from the judges (though he did pick Vitali this weekend) . Sometimes it does get a bit annoying when they talk gibberish, and I was shocked that nobody on the Sky team seemed to notice the problem with Solis' knee, but all in all they do a good job.

Best "jim Watt" moment for me was juarez vs john, I think he actually had Juarez winning, when actually john won the fight clearly. Couldn't stop laughing at how poor his scoring was.
