Here we go then, can England score well against the spin heavy attack of Pakistan?

England to bat first. Bresnan isn't fit so James Anderson plays. Otherwise, as expected.

Prediction? Pakistan by 4 wickets.

Crucial and quite brilliant batting performance from Cook and well supported by Bopara but other top/middle order batsmen failed.

Amazing bowling from Finn, our bowlers should be able to win this match from here. My prediction of a 2-2 ODI series is not looking so wild.

Broad just bowled a full over of half volleys that went for a few. Not sure why!?

4 for Finn! Amazing!

Well with Finn in that sort of form mystic, we might get our wish.

I think he was looking for the swing & movement that Finn and Anderson have been getting. A bit carried away with the full length there! I'll give him a dodgy opening over though. He's earnt that.

Finn has been outstanding, wanted him in the Test side from the first test and he is really showing what a quality bowler he is and will become in the future

Another excellent over from Finn, probing and testing. Tight lines and good pace.

Still tough for Finn to get into the Test side as Bresnan's batting will surely get him in the side in Sri Lanka if we go with 5 bowlers. In the summer however Broad/Finn/Anderson/Swann could well be our attack.

Question is, what to do with Monty Panesar? It seems very cruel that he might get dropped again despite his performances in the tests.

Absolutely fabulous from Finn here.
From now on, its an Afridi cracker that can save Pakistan. But these days that has become rarer than a Chris Martin single!.

england have alot of good bowlers- every time we bring a finn, patel, bresnan, or panaser in they do well.

its great competition for places- a very good problem to have.

This seems a good start,though Pakistan have time and overs to fight.

Looking above then it looks like Eng fell a bit short?

Good to see some fight shown after giving up their number 1 test place (seemingly) in such a limp way.

Thought Finn should have bowled another over. Cook may be trying to get through a few cheap overs from the 5th bowler here, but another wicket would have almost nearly sunk Pakistan.
First Patel and now Ravi, are England losing the plot a bit here?

Yes it is but I feel that in more unhelpful conditions Swann is a better bowler and so when we only choose one spinner it will be him. Another couple of performances from Monty out in Sri Lanka could make their selection very difficult when the summer comes around though.

Yeah I think that is a better "problem" to have. Means that there's little weakening of the team if injuries occur.

didnt see the point in taking finn off in that form and the problems he was giving!

Wouldn't say we fell short. 260 is a little over a par score on this pitch, but at one point we looked set for 280/290. Ajmal bowled very well in his final spell though.

Don't mind cook giving Patel an over or two just to see how much turn there is under the lights. He may well be thinking of the powerplays too. I would have been tempted to leave Finn with say, 2 overs for later on as an impact change. He bowled superbly in that spell.

Might need those overs later - i'm not wahtching it but would it be fair to say the finn is the only one who looks like taking a wicket?

Am slightly surprised they haven't turned to Swann yet. Considering he is the 1st choice spinner!

Actually when I've been captain of a team (rarely!), I used to be an exponent of leaving your best bowler with a few overs to bowl at the end. Though I can't remember how those games turned out...

i would have kept finn on and stuck swann on the other side(anderson and broad are superb tail death bowlers)- however what do i know we just got a wicket

Plus you don't want Finn to overdo it after having no cricket all tour, he's a big fast bowler and bowling 6 overs in a row will take a lot out of him.

Great decision to bowl Patel btw, Misbah is out!

How long will Umar Akmal resist the urge to do something daft? The bowling powerplay should be on the way soon, might just be the invite to self-destroy for him.

Patel does for Misbah! Missed a straight one on the front foot, struck on the back leg plum infront! Start the tuck tuck!

Yeah thats a fair assesment. Its a decent pitch, some turn and bounce but not excessive. Dry and fairly slow, but since the lights have come on there's been a bit of nip and movement for the seamers, which Finn exploited brilliantly. The other two seamers bowled some good lines too. Just need to close this one out now, Just afridi to come of the recognised batters.

Cook and, to a lesser extent, Bopara, are the only 2 who have looked capable of batting on this pitch today.

Tight lines from here then to seal it.

Shoaib Malik is making yet another comeback to the national side, this time at the insistence of his skipper apparently. Will he justify his captain?

Only Akmal and Afridi can win it for Pakistan from here on, but both find it impossible to have a thinking head when they bat. So unless England somehow manage to mess it up horribly, this one's in the bag!.

had to say it didnt you! Anderson hit for two fours in that over. the first a rank long hop slapped to deep point, the second a bit agricultural, thought mid wicket.

And as usual, my predictions and hopeful writings are dashed within 2 minutes of me posting them!!

But the Powerplay has finished, and only 15 runs have been scored. Run rate required is now pushing 6.5 and over. Continue as before, England Team!

Akmal is looking to play shots now. He's suffering with a back injury and it's showing. He doesn't seem to be too keen on quick singles etc right now. Definitely looking to the boundaries.

Congrats england i doubt afridi will make 170 with his own daftness and akmals back.

Akmal gone stumped off swann, good bit of work from Kieswetter, the ball after Afridi was dropped at long on by Samit. Swann not happy. Even the wicket next ball didnt seem to cheer him up!

The Pakistan fans were cheering victory in that over they were so loud there as he battered Samit and got lucky and then boom boom.. out.
