There are ladies' tees at Augusta, and they are made very welcome. Just not allowed to be members.

Women are most assuredly allowed to play at Augusta. I know two women who have played there, and made most welcome.

I see, they are allowed to play as the guest of a member. Thanks for that George. There are no ladies' tees though according to numerous google search results, so they must have to play off the men's.George1507 wrote:incontinentia wrote:Since when? Not true. There are changing rooms allocated for ladies.
Women can play there, just not become members.

Re: Trivia
I haven't been there Doon, but I was told that there are about half a dozen changing rooms that are just allocated on the basis of who will be there that day. These rooms may be named after flowers and shrubs - or maybe after players - but they are named. So "Howdy, Mrs Doon, you'll be changing in the pulsatilla room".*

Re: Trivia
I think they altered Muirfield after the Curtis Cup.
When my daughter was playing national championships the ladies used to have a good laugh when THE MEN surendered their changing rooms for the length of the tournament. The 10 urinals and two wc's were not a big plus.

Re: Trivia
Been a while since we had a "who am I" quiz.
I have pro wins over 5 decades and 4 continents.
I've won on the European and Challenge Tours.
I've also won on the main senior tours in both Europe and the USA.

A more specific clue - 80% of my Champions Tour wins were over the same runner-up

Re: Trivia
And another clue, of sorts: he hasn't won anything classed as a "senior major" by any tour... all his senior wins were just regular(ish) events on the tour in question.
So to recap:
- I have won pro tournaments in five different decades.
- I have won pro tournaments on four different continents: Africa, Europe, N America, Central America.
- I won on both the European Tour and Challenge Tour.
- I have won on both the Champions Tour and the European Seniors Tour, but
- I have never won a senior major. And finally,
- Of my Champions Tour wins, 80% saw me beat the same guy into second place.

And there we have it too, John not-so Bland of SA is the answer!
Won multiple times in SA between the early 70s and early 90s, and picked up two ET wins in the mid 80s and a Challenge Tour win just after it started, in 1991. Won on his first Euro Senior start in 1995, just after he turned 50, then went to the US and won once before the year was out and another 4 times in 1996, where weirdly four of the five wins saw Jim Colbert take runner-up honours. Then after he lost his Champions Tour place by virtue of not being famous enough, he came back to Europe and won twice more, in 2009 and 2010!

Re: Trivia
Ned,
I think his Champions Tour career would have been even more propitious but his wife became ill and he pretty much cut short his Champo career.
Runner up to Swampy in a US Senior Open.
The South Africans/Zimbabweans have done rather well on the Champions Tour, Hobday, Watson, Frosty and Price as well, not to mention Player an Harold the Horse Henning. Probably some others also.
Much better than most Aussies and Europeans.

Re: Trivia
Who am I?
-By looking at the leaderboard I could never tell whether I was over or under par.
-My dad played football (professionally) for Portsmouth - but even kwini probably never heard of him. He later became a drug dealer.
-Despite these (seemingly) unfortunate circumstances, I have done quite well, both on and off the golf course.

So not Pompey, then. Not sure about the drugs though.pedro wrote: -My dad played football (professionally) for Portsmouth - but even kwini probably never heard of him. He later became a drug dealer.
I'm thinking course design.pedro wrote: -Despite these (seemingly) unfortunate circumstances, I have done quite well, both on and off the golf course.

You're never wrong....
Nicklaus' dad played (American) football in Portsmouth, Ohio. He later became a pharmacist.
Colour blind and course design is correct as well. (Actually the statement about being over or under par is in his own words.)

Thank you. I'd heard the story about JN being colour blind and guessed re the course design bit. The drugs bit fooled me, and I was thinking along the lines of Kwini. I'll try and think of something obscure to ask.

OK. It's a bit of a tortured way to seek an obscure answer and nowhere near as good as Pedro's question, but what didn't happen from three minutes to three o'clock until two minutes past three?
