The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Ben Morgan, Stuart Hogg, Simon Zebo and birthday boy Penfro above the bar.

Contrary to the norm I wasn't actually being sarcastic this time Notch. Dwarf is the correct term. Hobbit will probably earn you a punch in the davina's.

Enthusiasm and hard work is most welcome and bodes well, but worries over this students grasp of fundamental concepts remain.
That's my honest take but, feic it, I'm just going to enjoy it anyway.

It was encouaraging. They looked rusty. It showed in the 1st half that Italy had more game time.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I think Scotland at home could be the game to give Zebo his debut if he is going to come in. Might try and get O'Mahony in versus France though.
I thought Trimble was quiet apart from his try but he was kind of unlucky a few times as the supporting player who just didn't get that last pass. It was all graft and no glory. But then you would like to see Zebo get a chance, just that x (z?) factor. Bit of fearlessness of youth. Just wouldn't choose the Stade de France to do it- same again for the back three next week.

No credit for Court. His body position was all wrong. Trimble scored a good try but he wasn't very good today. He questioned his distribution He's a winger FFS!!

We won't get carried away with this result. With the greatest respect Italy were poor in the second half. Very pleasing scoreline and plenty of positives to take.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
My observations on the game:
1. Ireland need Ulstermen to score tries (can Scotland borrow some?!)
2. Ireland need David Wallace back at 7, SOB just doesn't work there playing the game that they are trying to without front-foot ball
3. Kearney back to his absolute best
That is all

It's true. We play like that against France, they'll have us. Still need to up the game if we want to take that scalp.

I was pi$$ed off with Leinster when they slotted him straight back into fullback when he came back from injury. Isa made that jersey his own last season and deserved to at least have Kearney win it back from him. It didn't happen but to be fair Kearney has been immense since he came back but I still feel a bit wrong that he walked back into the jersey without a contest.

In the Grand Slam, Ferris basically hit every ruck. You hardly ever saw him carrying the ball; his whole job was to clear out and disrupt and impose himself in the tight and he freed up Wallace and Heaslip to attack in the wide channels. It's great to see Ferris carrying the ball more, he's very good at it and he had a great game today, but we're trying to have our cake and eat it now. It's O'Brien who's being asked to do the graft and he's not great at it.

Aswbo?
Sure you're forever telling us that Ulster need Saffers to win so why not just cut out the middleman?
Oh that's right. You already have!

Maybe we should give SOB a game at No.8. Heaslip still isn't firing on all cylinders.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Some observations:
This is a strong Ireland squad
Kearney is BOD's replacement as talisman - the guy who does something to lift the team
The Irish forwards are a formidable unit - POC amazing
SOB is slightly off form and the kindest thing would be to give him a rest
5 tries with gears to spare, can't be bad
France, England an even Scotland will have you of you don't find those gears soon.

Mike Phillips isn't looking like the next Lions scrum half in that 40 minutes Hughie. Plenty of time between now and next years for someone to put their hand up for it.
Farrell may well yet challenge Priestland and Sexton for the 10 jersey as well!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
My thoughts on that game:
1. Well done Wales on a first ever TC secured at Twickers
2. Gatland, nailed on Lions coach
3. Preistland, not his best game
4. Matt Stevens, brain addled by marching powder
5. Brad Barritt, tireless
6. Owen Farrell, the real deal
That is all.
Now for the real game:
Oggy, oggy, oggy
Chiefs, Chiefs, Chiefs

I've seen it from every angle and I still don't know! Inconclusive.
England need to stick with Farrell at 10. He's the future. He could be a Lion, he has the Test match minerals.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
of joy Really pleased for the lads. Not their best performance but a win all the same. Sam's such a graciou captain too. Love him. Not thinking about a GS. Just chuffed they could win at Twickers.
Well done England. Played really well.
My view of the potential try is that it was held up, but because the view was obscured TMO I can understand why it was inconclusive.
I've had a fab day today

Strange feeling after that game. Gutted to lose, but pleased that we showed we can play a bit as well. There are issues in some jerseys, but I hope that Lancaster gets the job full time, as I think he could address them and take us on to another level.

Well played Wales! Triple Crown and marching on.
Have a great evening all our Welsh regs.
England showed they are coming as a force and could still win the 6-N. Be proud. France will have a huge say in it also. I hope we do too.
I love the 6-N again!
Now for Warriors v Leinster . Wot en dag!

We got away with that one. Priestland didn't have a good game by the standards he's set himself lately. In days past, his head would have gone but to be fair to him he kept on going. I think we just deserved the victory.
I couldn't believe how slow Dixon (and Phillips to a slightly lesser extent) was in getting the ball away. Why didn't the ref pick them up on it?
