The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Ben Morgan, Stuart Hogg, Simon Zebo and birthday boy Penfro above the bar.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
To me Sexton and Rog is the most logical pick.
We've used it three times
1) Ireland v England when we crushed them
2) Ireland v Australia RWC
3) Today when we attacked Italy well

Evening all. Feel very strange after that match. In the end it's the perfect result for this Welsh side: we're three from three, but it's a reality check, just in case we got carried away with the hype around us.
Only a fool would have expected England to roll over at Twickenham. They put pride back in that jersey and a draw would have been about right.
I think this is great management from Warren Gatland:
"There were young boys today who froze a bit on the big occasion. We were going to take Rhys Priestland off with 20 minutes to go, but then decided the best way for him to learn was to see if he could see the game out. It is a big step for us."

I think this is great management from Warren Gatland:

Ireland need.to have Sexton getting 80 minute games.without Rog knock
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I don't think its a reality check at all. Its a fantastic result for Wales.
They had an excellent RWC and exceded many's expectations.
They've won the triple crown, the first Welsh team to do so at twickenham and prove they are the best of the home Nations.
Now they have the opportunity to prove they are the best in Europe and win a 3rd GS in 7 seasons.
Thats pretty awesome to be honest.

Interesting. And I like Zebo. He's electric. But aren't McFadden and D Kearney ahead of Zebo? In Deccie's mind. Not mine. Id go for it.
But Trimble is one of my fav players. Im standing by him for now. He did nowt wrong and scored a try. They were all rusty today and it showed in the 1st half.
If Darcy is injured, I see McFadden replacing him tbh. Totally agree with POM and Ryan. Being saying it for yonks, but SOB is NOT a 7. Someone please tell Rory Gallagher that. I think even Deccie knows it now. Warburton gave a Masterclass today.
Like yer sytle though man.

Its true. Hard to argue it. And Deccie is using it more now. Gives us far more creativity and options. Two great kickers on the field, may give us more positional nous kicking from hand also. Sexton is great defender.

Gibson you'd have enjoyed Paddy Wallace performance last night...he was sublime...
OK I'm throwing it out there to be ignored...Irish coaches are not used to depth and competition for places and struggle to put effective combinations together and use squads effectively when they have a number of players pushing for places.....

Its true. We are picking the players who are playing well individually - in their fixed positions, for their provinces. That does not always work as unit. He needs to get the blend right. Gatland has.
Maybe Stag is right about Sexton and ROG on the field at the same time. It really enlivens us. Reddan must be in that mix to make it work. We are going to need something special to beat France in Paris.

If you want to have another look at the tries today;

We don't often see Ireland get five. Might as well enjoy it!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Evening. Congrats to on the win and the Triple Crown. So many 'ifs, buts and maybes' went through my head after that game.
Matt Stevens should never wear the jersey again. Having been very disciplined in our own half, we gave away two unnecessary penalties to hand momentum back to Wales.
This team need to grow up quickly - to let a 6 point lead go so easily was disappointing. Mind you, I did say in the pub that, at all square with 10 to go, Wales would win.
Roll on the French in Paris. Always my favourite 6N game.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Wales are peaking at the right time. That Australia test is proving to be a great innovation - it ensured the players kept their gameplan in mind.
Ireland need a left field play to beat France in Paris. If we do, I believe we could claim the 6 Nations on points difference.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Heard a very "interesting" story today about a non Irish referee who when he last visited Thomond Park to referee in the Celtic League, he ended up quite drunk and literally (and I mean literally) was caught with his trousers around his ankles rollocking this one across the bonnet of a car, outside a very very well known Limerick rugby pub all the while wearing his union blazer.
To put it in context it would be the equivilant of George Clancy being caught in that situation outside the City Arms pub in Cardiff.
No names or nationalities will be mentioned (though clearly Nigel Owens is ruled out).

My other uselessly informative rugby gem of the day is that when possible this is what the following coaches like to drink:
Gert Smal - Red Wine
Les Kiss - Vodka and Diet Coke
Declan Kidney - Pina Colada

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
The ferry to Paris?? That would take forever.
We simply chartered a plane to Paris last time.
But if you wanted to do it from Limerick to Rosslare is about 3 hours. A ferry from there to either Roscoff or Cherboug is an overnight job and then you have between 5-6 hours driving in France to get to Paris. Not worth it.
If you are based in Great Britain the crossing at Calais isn't a bad option though.

Rodders - its around 380km to Paris from Cherbourg. Not factoring in getting off the ferry and out of the port and then the dreaded Peripherique which seems to be always chockablock with traffic. You also have to drive through Caen which would be more traffic.
