First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Ben Morgan, Stuart Hogg, Simon Zebo and birthday boy Penfro above the bar.

Paul O'Connell was my man of the match yesterday. Sexton was solid and kicked his kicks this time but I didn't see where man of the match came from on this occasion.

RTE chose Sexton as MoTM, but the BBC chose Stephen Ferris. Which is a shame for Rob Kearney!

Agree with all of that, BUT, it's Australia away. Horses for courses.

Phillips is infinitely more effective than Murray right now (Murray is only young granted). Phillips, always aggressive, always wanting to keep defenders interested in staying close to him because of the erratic nature of his game, which often creates the space required for his big backs when he shifts it to them. He's much more a constant niggling, dangerous threat. To me Phillips is the best thing in a Welsh shirt right now...and that includes the poster boys Lidiate, Warburton, Halfpenny etc.

Question:

Gatland won a Six Nations 5 seasons ago, does this mean there is hope for Deccie.

Fly he's still the same type. Phillips is a much better player than he is a scrum half. Excellent dressing room presence.

No, Glas he can't be the same type simply because he's tallish for a scrumhalf and has black hair that he let's grow a little long Wink. I don't see Murray and Phillips being the same type at all....yet. Maybe Murray will develop into a Phillips but for now, I personally don't see game managing similarities.

Secret I agree. I think we would have badly struggled to score tries had Murray stayed on the pitch. Reddan had a massive impact.

Well, it's early days for Murray. I think this whole debate is a wee bit premature though. A lot will depend on the 2013 Six Nations.

Redden seemed like the spark needed, for sure. But I'm not downing a young man (Murray) who is probably finding the pressure cooker environment a little dificult to manage as yet. I think Murray will grow into his role - if he continues to get the opportunities - and become as effective at his game as Redden, perhaps even moreso. But he'll need more of these games to work through some issues. Besides, I think the early gameplan constricted him somewhat as it was Kidney's declared objective to first breakdown the Italians. So criticism of Murrays speed and decisions might be misplaced.

No, Glas. Sorry, I don't see. I know Murray is tagged with this similarity but I haven't witnessed it personally. When I see the similarities I'll acknowledge them. Promise.

does anyone else think that Lee Dickson for England looks a little bit like the love child of Kelly Brown? Or is that just me?

Just finished watching the game back again. Rhys P has got a lot to learn form that match - a lot.

England lost to Scotland didn't they?

Very embarrassing Ireland's part.

On that point, it does rankle me when we play abroad and they just play a CD for our anthem.

And linking in well, there is really something amazing when Scotland sing the anthem and there is no band or any singer leading them.

Even if we lose to them, as long as players are being developed and benefitting from the experience, then that is the aim.
