First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Ben Morgan, Stuart Hogg, Simon Zebo and birthday boy Penfro above the bar.

Ale cuppa coffee mug guinness cider RedWine Bubbly

not a bad team that Hughie.

I would love your backrow to learn how to offload more though, they have the strength to stay standing in the tackle but they very rarely get the pass away, it infuriates me, because they so clearly have the opportunity to do so. Would help speed up your game no end (imo wrth gwrs/of course)

I wouldn't be too far away from that tbh Hughie, only difference is I would retain Bowe over Zebo. Mr. Conservative Smile

It's a good team. I really would like to see us really get back to the level we are capable of at our best this weekend. There have been so many years of hurt versus France. A win over there? Dreamland.

Maybe the non-irish posters are about to tell me I am dreaming if I think we can win. What do you think guys? Do we have a shot?

Medard out is a massive help to you, I rate him far FAR more than Poitrenaud.

You guys have to be more competative at the breakdown (and at the risk of sounding like George Hook Wink ) you need a proper 7 to do this! Not sure where you can magic one from though, but SOB just isnt doing it so far this 6N's for me. Don't get me wrong he's not doing badly, but the French backrow is so good you need someone who is exceptional.

Their scrum is frightening too. I dunno, tough tough ask but the French showed against Scotland if you really take teh fight to them they can get quite rattled.

So go for it, all guns blazing, and sure you might do it. Anything is possible Smile

And evening Cf Smile

I know bowe got tow tries the weekend but there was a huge "right place at the right time" about both of them, he had a quiet enough game apart from that, he hasn't really gone looking for the ball like he used to. He really has just gone off the heat for the past year

Notch, Paris should not hold the bogey ground status it has in the past for you.

You can do it...

Yes. We will win. They are not all that. Have a new coach and are still finding their way under him. Scotland exposed them but hadn't the nous or firepower to finish the deal. We do.
Medard is a huge loss for them. Poitrenaud is not in the same league effectively.

The time is NOW.

My Team to do it:
15. Kearney
14. Earls
13. Bowe
12. Darcy
11. Trimble
10. Sexton
9. Murray

1. Healy
2. Best
3. Ross
4. Ryan
5. POC
6. Ferris
7. POM
8. Heaslip

The bench is obvious from that.

Need to use ROG with Sexton again, if we are up with 15 mins to go. Reddan on with him. And a pished-off and fired up SOB, to replace Heaslip in tandem. Perfect combo to finish em off.
No thanks Deccie. Just be brave man.

Believe.

I think the backs will line out as they were on Saturday. I think the only change in the pack could be Ryan for DOC.

Against Scotland we will definitely see POM for either SOB or Ferris, Cronin for Best, Zebo for Trimble and McFadden/Bowe in the centre with Earls moving to the wing.

We'll see Rav. Normally its business as usual for Deccie. It has not worked. And, he is starting to show signs of coming awake to other possibilities. Bowe was moved inside and was really strong and effective.

Chances are - he will start the same team/formation. My contention is, if he has learnt anything from Sat - he shouldn't.

He must start Ryan though. It is inexplicable him being on the bench. McGahan has shown that.
I also feel SOB is lost and wasted at 7. Always did. Always will. POM has shown a massive amount of aggressiveness about him on the floor. We need that v France.

We get very proud of people from this little part of the world who go out and achieve something. Terry George had this to say;

Mr George dedicated his win to "the people of Northern Ireland, Protestant and Catholic, who after 30 years of war sat down, negotiated a peace and proved to the world that the Irish are great talkers".

Speaking backstage, Mr George, who wrote the Guildford Four film In The Name of the Father, said he would celebrate by going back "to the little village where we shot this".

He said: "Already tonight they had an Oscar party at a place called The Anchor Bar, so I'm going to return with the prize, and then hopefully use it to promote, not just the peace process in Northern Ireland, but tourism and everything that's going on there. So I hope that this is just a reaffirmation that things have changed there and that we're trying to move on and it's a great place to be."

Which is a wonderful message about Northern Ireland to get out there on a world stage OK

Dragons v Munster saturday and France v Ireland sunday so looking forward to the weekend. Ireland could do Wales a big favour so here is hoping. Though part of me would like a winner takes all showdown in the final match.

Notch, anything is possible, but the bookies will mark it as unlikely. Do the Irish players care about the 6Ns or are they more interested in the Heino? (apart from Bowe obviously cos he plays for a crepe club)

I think they do care. I certainly wouldn't say to O'Connell or Ferris that they 'don't care' about the Six Nations or laying for Ireland!

Whatever problems we've had, I don't think it's this old chestnut of players care more about the provinces than the national team. I do think that there is a sort of psychological baggage that seems to come with the green jersey... maybe just dealing with that extra pressure that comes with test level rugby? It's a strange one.

Ireland can beat France and they can still win the six nations. Admittedly Wales will be the favourites at the moment but anything can happen.

France have a very tough run in although they will be glad to have Ireland and England at home.

True. This 6-N is not over yet. But, I just can't see Wales being stopped now. England tried. Ireland tried... Italy and France at home? Its Wales' SLAM to lose now imo. Best team in it.

Wales will be leading the table with 4 out of 4 come the final weekend, and then at home with a massively enthusiastic crowd and a Slam on the line- can't see any other outcome than a Welsh slam to be honest. Those two away wins sealed it. It's nearly a done deal.

Lads, all this Murray/Reddan talk has got me thinking. Why not use them as a one/two punch? Murray for first 50 minutes when it's physical and throw in Reddan when it opens up? Also, I think DOC gets a ridiculous amount of criticism. He does things people don't notice and you would have to be a good analyst to see how good he plays. Ryan should be starting though.

Outside you. That, is our province. We get bored with the rest - no competition. So we argue amongst ourselves for practice.

I think thats how Kidney used the scrum-halves against Italy and it may well be thats how he uses them again at the weekend. It's a good strategy. Murray wasn't great but Italy did a very good job of targeting him; he'll learn a lot from that game I think.

Certainly I wouldn't be annoyed if he starts again (personally would prefer Reddan, but it's a close call) because sometimes you just have to invest time in young players with potential.

You're right Thom, but I feel those are minor issues. The obvious problem is 6, 7, 8, 12. Blydi hell Ferris, Coughlan, Henry is better than what you have now!
D'Arcy - put out to pasture get McFadden at 12, Bowe at 13 and pick two from Trimble Earles and Zebo for your wingers.

Also, I think DOC gets a ridiculous amount of criticism. He does things people don't notice and you would have to be a good analyst to see how good he plays. Ryan should be starting though.

A lot of truth in that T.
Murray took them on when they were still fit and aggressive. By the time Reddan came on, they were bushed. He did a lot of defensive work on the fringes and behind the scrum.

Like Sexton, he needs to be persisted with, for the good of our future.

Agree on Ryan. But I think DOC is spent at this level. Great servant but dipping. Deccie needs to find a replacement soon.

Long range forecast looks good for Paris Sunday... Looking forward to this game and after watching Scotland France it has led me to believe that Ireland can win this one.

How goes it? Hoping for a better weekend with the old rugby results this weekend, and for the mighty Arsenal to kick on from humbling Totteringham Hotspuds yesterday.

Some whopping Ozzy. I was thinking of you, when Van P put that beauty in. I still think ye can take 3rd. Rosicky was sublime. At the centre of everything good about your side.
People are talking of 'Arry being England manager. I really think that would be a huge mistake.

It's brilliant mate. He is superb and it is warts and all. Excellent by the BEEB. As per. They have no peers when it comes to mammoth tasks like this.

Ah man. I feel yer pain. well I dont.. but you know what I mean.

Having seen Spurs snatch humiliating defeat from the jaws of victory on Sunday, he meets the criteria for any England manager at a major tournament.

Spurs haven't been great since Capello left. It's having an impact in the changing rooms for sure. 'Arry would be stupid to leave what he is building at Spurs.
