The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Ben Morgan, Stuart Hogg, Simon Zebo and birthday boy Penfro above the bar.

'Arry is a fantastic club manager, but I think there is a danger that tactically he would get caught out at international level Gibbo.
Sadly, the only English manger who I think is genuinely qualified for the job is Hoddle, and that is a fairly sorry state of affairs.
England fans need to be realistic as well, we just do not have the players to compete with the likes of Spain, Holland and Germany right now. Whoever gets the job needs a guarantee of time from the FA, and then needs to get rid of all the dead wood and pick a young inexperienced side, take a few defeats, but keep picking the same players through thick and thin, and turn it into almost a club side. That is the only way we will compete at the World Cup in 2014.

Evening pub,
I'm a numpty. Decided to make a banana loaf to use up some bananas that were past their best. Forgot the thing takes an hour to cook!
I'll just sit in a comfy chair with a till it's done.

I think Pardew is yer man. If given the time you speak of. But. The FA dont seem strong enough to sort it out from ground-level up and give an Englishman the time to do so.
People dont seem to realise, that the problems with English International football, run deeper. Just look at the Premiership, to find the answer as to why its going wrong. One of the answers.

I LOVE bannana cake! Send us some Swanny. Slurp.
I used make em with a supson of spice, back in the old days. I remember my sis was over once. I forget to tell her. She wolfed half it before I could stop her.
She was quiet and introspective, for 3 hours. 1st and last time that's ever happened.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Clough would have made a brilliant English manager. They just didn't like his radical ideas.
Winning 2 European Cups - with mostly average British players - proved it beyond doubt for me.
I tell you who would take England further than anyone managing now, in the Premiership. His protege and Captain. Martin O' Neill. He didnt lick it off the stones.

The Premiership is a massive problem for the England team Gibbo.
1. There is so much money in it that instant success is demanded. That means young talent struggles to flourish as under pressure managers splash the cash on expensive proven imports. As a result most English youngsters do not play Champions League football and therefore do not get that stepping stone to international football.
2. English fans are proud of the blood and thunder nature of the league. We openly applaud the plucky underdogs of Stoke City, who go out and kick seven shades out of the opposition in order to compete. This does not work at international level, and is part of the reason why technically we are miles behind some other European nations.
3. Power exerted over players by club managers is too much. I have lost count of how many have pulled out of this weeks friendly with Holland through 'injury', but I can guarantee 90% of them will start for the clubs at the weekend.
I could go on, but I'd be here all night listing the problems for the England football team if I did.

Yup.
I said most of that on the soccer threads and was attacked by Prem fans who said they had the best league in the World. I dont think so. Even in isolation and with 60% foreign players and a majority of foreign owners, who could not care less about England's International side. And not a tosh for the English team's progress. They see it as an unnecessary distraction.
Please Allah, dont let that happen to Rugby.

Evening all. Just read back a bit. How's the rhino all ok I hope.
This might be contentious, but Ireland are now into playing several games on the trot. I've said it before, but your guys struggle to keep the intensity levels in this type of situation. Any RWC is an example.
Asbo's point about the HC, while tongue in cheek, is well made. There's plenty of rest for the main men between the three, two week rounds.
You have the players to beat France without a doubt, and I am looking forward to that one. In fact the way this year's schedule falls, there are lots of very tasty encounters to come.

Agree with a lot of that Hound. Not so much on the HC bit, but hey, its an opinion-based forum.
Ireland, to my knowledge, have never played 2 top-level games in-a-row, with any consistency. It's true. Playing Italy (no offence to them) and the France game delayed, has given us a chance to really redeem ourselves after Wales.
Maybe 4 games in a row, will help concentrate and gel this team at last. I dunno. Really dunno. But Kidney is now forced to use his whole squad - and maybe beyond it. Now that he is stuck between a rock and a hard place. (injuries may actually be his friends - again). Dont want em, but it helped him develop this squad. Made changes for him. He simply has to rotate more. No choice. Be interesting to see what comes out of it. Dont care about how we do in this 6-N. I care more about what comes out of it.

Scotland will do us damage. They always do. They are a lot better than the last time they beat us at home. We, are not.
And, I am with yerman Asbo. Aswellas you and the Hugster.
He planned this meet to humiliate us. In my town. Not on. Not on atall atall.
I might put a few bob on them. Just to cover the pints, I may have to buy im.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I have a feeling the french match will hurt us. Ferris gives everything to the cause and I hope his knees are up to playing 4 internationals in a row. IRFU injury update was positive though today with only Healy being a minor concern. Here's hoping it's the same next week.
Though I suspect prides, egos and confidences will be bruised more than bodies. France by 10. I'll say that now, happy to be quoted on it on sunday evening.
Also Paddy W needs to start. But of course that goes without saying.

Not joking Willser, but Paddy may be involved at some stage. It would be madness, imo. But I really think Deccie sired him. Its the only logical reason.
If injuries come, and some will. In the backs - he needs to draft in D Kearney and/or Zebo. In the backrow - Henry and... nah, not Jennings. He's been shoite.
So who's backup if things go orse-over-teet injury-wise, in a tight schedule?
A discussion for ye lot in de mornin.
Slaap lekker.

Kia - joyous news. I can knit (stocking stitch anyway, knit a row, pearl a row) so you could surely learn. Even if you get that bobbly wool and make a little blanket. My daughter's prize possession is such a blanket from 't moother in law. The point is she loves it because 'Nan' made it for her. Go on, give it a go, what have you got to lose?
Bore da.
I am thoroughly depressed.
Kidney has choked the life out of his team and now is doing it to the fans. GIBBO! Jennings is not shoite FFS!

I read his wiki page too Rav
Just wondering if he’s any use really. If we are looking to sign a back 3 player then I don’t hold out too much hope for us keeping Carr or getting Shaggy back from injury…

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Maybe he's a like for like replacement for Carr then? I hope we persist with Carr and don't make any new signings from outside the province to be honest. Maybe Darren Hudson could come into the main squad from the academy but i'd hope we're not looking for any new backs. Just get Isa a big contract and let that be that.

Question:
With their current financial woes, should Cardiff Blues become the 'development region' in Wales, rather than the Dragons (mooted to allow more money to go to the Blues)?

Really, given the way the Dragons are probably the only region to work within their budgets, they should be the last ones to become a development region. It won't happen though.
Hi all, I am back alright. My back has given out now though. At least it happened on my time off and not when I was away. Congratulation Kia on your news.

What's the story with Carr? Where is he likely to go next year? I don't understand why Leinster would be interested in Goneva considering the considerable amount of quality they have coming through in the back three unless they saw him as a starter.
