Pretty much World rankings provide both an 'official' balance sheet and P/L account of international bragging rights.

Now you will have noticed that Wales have moved in to 6th place one place under England.
Now i would of thought that because Wales won yesterday against England, Wales would have gone above England, seeing that England was higher than Wales in the first place.
So what would happen now if England beat France? Will England go above France, or will England stay just below France?
Can some one explain why Wales who beat England are still below England in the Worl RANKNS?

Don't try and apply logic to the rankings system, your brain will melt and spill over the keyboard

Slightly confused by this post. If you look at the IRB rankings website http://www.irb.com/rankings/ you'll see that they haven't been updated yet to take account of yesterday's games - I think you'll find that they will be updated tomorrow and that Wales will have climbed to 5th. Or have I missed something?
Mind you the rankings are a load of nonsense anyway if you ask me...

Re: latest world rankins.
Because it is point based, not just wins? Wales didn't beat us by enough?
And if it's anything like the Cricket ranking calculator, there are all sorts of weighting factors that eg increase the value of a win over a side well above you and reduce it for a side well below...

Re: latest world rankins.
You only get so many points per game based on where the game is played, what ranking points your opponent has, game points scored by both sides during the game, etc. Some others in here do the detail much better than I possibly would be interested in doing, but I think it's clear that from where both sides began the game on ranking points difference, what happened during the game insured that Wales simply didn't amass enough points.
The Rankings don't go by championship tables or ensure sides always leap frog each other depending on who wins a head to head. They are based on strict points being given for aspects of games played.

Re: latest world rankins.
I thought that if one team beat another team above them, then the teams would swap places. I could be wrong though.

Re: latest world rankins.
Idris is right. The rankings will be updated tomorrow and Wales will climb above England due to the points awarded for beating a higher ranked team away.
