Jon Davies re-signs for the Scarlets
Some good news at last coming out of Wales.
Jon 'Foxy' Davies (known as JD2 to many) has re-signed with the Scarlets.
Full article from the Scarlets site here:
http://www.scarlets.co.uk/eng/news/4700.php
All I can say is that this is fantastic news. There were rumours that he receivd a substantially larger offer from Saints, but the fact that he'd decided to stick with the Scarlets speaks volumes.
I can only hope more of the younger international players in Wales decide to follow his example and stay put.
This has made me very happy!

Re: Jon Davies re-signs for the Scarlets
Excellent news at a time when so many are deciding to leave. I only had a quick scan through the article, but do you know if the Scarlets had to break the bank to keep him or has he stayed because of his international ambitions, etc.?

The decision he was always likely to make. His Welsh ambitions may well have been hindered by a move away and the Scarlets will not have left him out of pocket that's for sure.

Re: Jon Davies re-signs for the Scarlets
no mention of that Griff, and Foxy comments that he wanted to stay due to the style of play at the oppotunities, the group of players he gets to train with and the opportunities he has to improve with the Scarlets and the regions' ambitions etc. Said it also helped that it was his local side.
Sam - aye always most likely but there were really big fears we could lose him. Can't state how important it was for the Scarlets that he stays.
And I can't believe how few responses a good news article has got! Just confirms my suspicions that we in Wales aren't happy unless we're complaining about something...

Hugely good news, well done to the Turks.
I think he's the form Welsh player at the moment.
I think he was always going to sign, training with his mates, a very promising side with aspirations for big success.
Hopefully, thus is the second of many bigger players committing to the regions!

Also more good news came out of the Scarlets Crys 16 meeting yesterday - apparently Morgan Stoddart has fully recovered, is back training and should be able to play again sometime towards the end of March, excellent!

Re: Jon Davies re-signs for the Scarlets
Excellent stuff, wasn't really a Stoddart fan, until his last prolonged stint before this last injury. During that time I though that he looked great a real threat and it seemed that he may have addressed some defensive frailties.
I think that there may be some good times around the corner at PYS...wish I could say the same for the Ospreys.

Re: Jon Davies re-signs for the Scarlets
well after a few bleak seasons Monkey, I would hope good times were coming back to Y Parc.
And I honestly don't think the O's are that badly off. Shane retiring and Bowe going finally frees up places for all of your young wingers like Walker to get a proper chance at claiming the shirt.
And I think Tandy, if given the chance, could actually become very good for the O's. THe O's were playing their best most attractive rugby in the LV games, and it was those games that Tandy was in charge of. Boads well for the style of play he's looking to get the O's playing I think

Fingers crossed Dragon, hope more of the younger Welsh players who are out of contract soon follow his lead and stay put.

I couldn't really see the Saints going all out for a centre so I figured the Scarlets would retain him. He was only going to leave if another club offered him superstar stuff and the Saints don't do that anymore. The AP is all about squad strength and the Saints are trying to build that up, starting with their pack and working back from there. They need another 12 but I doubt they want to pay the big bucks for one.

Re: Jon Davies re-signs for the Scarlets
Perhaps not Sam, but there were so many reports about it, you'd have to say they were definitely interested. It's being reported that they offered him £50K more a year than the Scarlets (really don't know if that's true) but that he's opted to stay with us.
Whether they were serious about signing him or not I don't know, it's just great for the Scarlets and what we're trying to achieve, that he stays

Great for Scarlets. Though in a sense they seem to retain the players they want to pretty easily.
Great news on MS too.

Re: Jon Davies re-signs for the Scarlets
I'm sure the Saints were interested but I never thought he'd go based on what the Saints were likely to offer and the fact that his home town club were keen to keep him.

Re: Jon Davies re-signs for the Scarlets
We do and we don't Rev. Don't think we wanted to lose Dom Day, and it's certainly looking more likely that Ben Morgan is going to be bought out of his remaining year with us.
In the grand scheme of things though Foxy is more important to us then the other two, so guess we've managed to keep the right one.
Fingers crossed we can keep on to more of those out of contract too

Re: Jon Davies re-signs for the Scarlets
great news!
scarlets announced all the players who re-signed in one go last season after the 6 nations. so slightly suprised that they didn't do the same this year. wondering if they are still negotiating with some players?
but couldn't be happier with foxy re-signing.....YMLAEN Y SCARLETS!!!!!!

Re: Jon Davies re-signs for the Scarlets
Good news, and a very sensible move for him, Wales have a lot of centers at the moment and him leaving Wales may of put him out of the picture, especially if a young center comes to prominance in the next season.
Best he stays in sight and in mind of the Welsh coaching team.

Apparently Saints offered him a much bigger contract. But he was willing to take a pay cut to stay with Scarlets.

Re: Jon Davies re-signs for the Scarlets
Glad to hear that he has put pen to paper and that that Stodds is on the road to his return. Those two together work so well, just look at some of the best tries from last season, they seem to know what each other are going to do 99% of the time.
Also out of interest shouldn't Foxy be called JD3 (Johnathan Davies - aka Jiffy, John Davies - Legend of a prop) not JD2?

That's a very good point actually SS. Not sure it'll catch on now though, people seem to have JD2 stuck in their heads.
I prefer to call him Foxy myself...

Re: Jon Davies re-signs for the Scarlets
Is sorry but I can't see that he would have taken a pay cut to stay. I really admire his loyalty in staying but he's currently moving into the top international player bracket and there is no way he would take another 2 years on a lesser rate than when he first broke into the Scarlets first team a couple of years ago, especially when there were other clubs showing an interest who could pay more.gowales wrote:But he was willing to take a pay cut to stay with Scarlets.
My guess is that he is now rightly just about the best paid player at the Scarlets and that his increase in wages from next year will probably come from a portion of the money saved on Stephen Jones wages when he moves on.

Re: Jon Davies re-signs for the Scarlets
think they meant a pay cut in terms that he declined a better paid offer from Saints, therefore settled to be paid less at the Scarlets.

Re: Jon Davies re-signs for the Scarlets
Fair enough. I thought that it meant he was prepared to take an actual pay cut just to stay at Scarlets. You sometimes hear stuff like that from die hard fans when their favorite players re-sign but I'm afraid it just doesn't happen in this day and age.rugbydreamer wrote:think they meant a pay cut in terms that he declined a better paid offer from Saints, therefore settled to be paid less at the Scarlets.
Although I'm a Saints fan and would have been more than happy to see him playing at the Gardens I'm actually not upset he has decided to stay. With the regions going through well documented tough times it's good that at least some of your top players are showing loyalty to their own teams and league that have helped them develop into the players they have become.

Re: Jon Davies re-signs for the Scarlets
Great news for Welsh rugby not just the Scarlets, JD2 has improved a lot over the last year and in my opinion he is currently the best centre in the 6N. I rather money is spent on Welsh players, I find it difficult supporting the Blues with all their imports.
