606 Rugby - why do you use it?
First topic message reminder :
I know that's stating the obvious but I must run along the V2 board writing serious well thought out posts (on occasion) interspersed with a large number of fun Wumming with Hersh et al and the occasional serious head to head difference of opinion with someone who is obviously failing to agree with my articulate points and are therefore clueless of course.
So in essence I get (i) serious debate (ii) fun wumming and (iii) the odd
A lot of posters keep it straight and occasionally get into the banter - What do you get out of 606V2? and where did the RugbyShrink go:

My soul has been saved.I cannot thank you enough.Stats are the way.Shant bother watching another game. The stats are the truth and the light.Fantastic.
Time management is superb;a quick scan of the stats and a shufty at the scoreboard means I will not have to watch another game of Rugby.Nearly 2 hours of my life freed up to do other stuff.Might even sell my telly.

Hmmmmm - I'm thinking that recommendation isn't going to sell too many tickets to the 606v2 show.

No, no , NO
You watch the game, enjoy it, have a drink, shout at the referee.
Then
when the game is finished and you have formulated your ideas.
Only Then
do you use stats to confirm your assumptions.

To discuss rugby and the gubbins that goes with it. Laugh, argue, have a bit of banter, find out the goss (as MrsBreadvan would say). Also to wonder how our Irish friends can write about 'Ulster squad additions' and 'Earls at 13' and get nigh on 1200 posts!

Re: 606 Rugby - why do you use it?
I think we discussed this back around the holidays. Like a lot of us I started to use internet chat whenever Her Majesty's government recalled me for medical assignments in some of the world's less wonderful situations. Living in tents or shacks for months at a time in high stress environments far removed from any sense of normalcy, many times the only connection to the outside world was occasional access to the internet. It was always like a tiny bit of home wherever I was.
Its hard to describe, but a little bit of (ir)regular chat went a long way for a lot of people. Certainly for me.
I know there has been a lot written about how our folks in the field have lacked some basic goods and support, especially recently. However, people of the ground did everything they could for us, and in areas where it didn't compromise security, more often than not there was some limited access to the internet. Which everyone gobbled up, almost all for the same reasons.
This is the only site I use, and that only occasionally. Partially because I have always enjoyed Rugby chat, partially because the chat is usually good. Living in New Jersey, as I do for the moment, has nothing in common with those assignments, but its still a piece of home. Home is truly where the heart is. But sometimes the internet helps.

I think, like others, 606v2 is a work-avoidance tactic and an oasis of insanity is a sometimes too-sane world.
I seem to remember he got banned from old 606 for linking to racist jokes sites. Could be wrong. He did sometimes seem to cross the line.RubyGuby wrote:and where did the RugbyShrink go

But thats's too dangerous for me! I'd keep getting injured trying to pronounce words like "Ysbyty".

Not true. I missed landing Coke as my first commercial client when my 30 second Zero commercial narrowly missed out on selection.
Drink the New Improve Coke Zero! It tastes nothing like the old coke, in fact resembling nothing more than the taste of rusty coins soaked in a premed sedative! gives you diarrhea if you drink more than two cans in 48 hours! only tipping out the contents and eating the can could be a less nutritious and pleasant experience! Our cost of manufacturing one unit is so low that now you too can contribute to our 8000% revenue margin! We now use exploitative manufacturing labour techniques in more than 50 countries! But never mind all that! Look at this short video clip or two hot scantily clad women gyrating in slow motion and rubbing up against each other! (exit warning text: do not allow the contents to come into contact with exposed skin, in the event of contact with the eyes flush well with cold water and seek medical advice immediately).

If by "combine the two" you're trying to admit that your views on rugby come across as a load of toss, then you needn't have bothered. The evidence spoke for itself.

I think I used to disagree with Mitey quite a lot but lately he's becoming my hero. This often sums up how I feel about 606. I do enjoy the genuine banter and the knowledgeable posters like red stag but mostly (especially around this time of year) it gets a bit annoying.
I do follow threads and often post but sometimes I get so wound up I have to stop myself getting involved.
