Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
First topic message reminder :
First person to get the confirmed correct answer gets to post the next clue. No need to give the number of characters in the name, but the clue must be for the first and last name (although variants of first name are allowed e.g. Andy or Andrew)
E.g. Delivered without Jay, a robot, without Cy = Bjorn Borg

laverfan nope but this lardy boy burns off a lot of calories in matches - he also claims to be a big cake fan.

Not sure if this is an anagram or not, but I assume it is.
to meet his Hero = Fan, admirer?
settle a debt = repay, collect, pay off (sounds like Peya)
Many famous swimmers from the days of Greek Mythology (Odysseus...)
TP, any hints if you are available?

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
Not an anagram LF
But you are very close indeed with Greek Mythology , though 'He' is not Odysseus. Note one word in clue is in upper case when you might expect it to be lower
I confidently await your answer

Interesting stuff. I'd never heard of the original Leander (not being much of a swimmer myself).

Hmmmm that sounds tough
Does clue mean that part of 'burnt toast' is not needed?

I am still cogitating but weekend too mellow for brain cells to work with any great success.
Does partly rejected mean I just take out some of the letters from burnt toast to find player's name?

burnt toast = part of the players last name
'partly rejected' provides part of the players name + another part of the clue = first name
Hope that coerces the mellow brain cells into some activity.

Desperately over 20/25 sec rule - think I have defaulted
Really need other peeps' inspiration/help here.........................................anyone?
Can only come up with Pablo Carreno-Busta the illustrious No 157 - why I haven't a clue except I can get 'burnt' out of his last name and part of toast if I reuse a letter. Then there is no at the end of Carreno for the rejected bit - I don't know what to do with Pablo!!!
Assistance greatly required.
(on a different topic, really disappointed, but not surprised, to see Grigor Dimitrov down 18 places to number 101 (or close) while I was perusing the 101-200 rankings )

Rejecting toast based on the colour of it's skin would seem irrational.Clue - My burnt toast was partly rejected.

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
Partly 'rejected' = some letters of the word 'rejected'
'burnt' has English synonyms which you should consider. Perhaps the 'toast' part is meant to confuse the reader.

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
Jeremy Chardy (Where's the 'sounds like' for charred?)
surely it should be - 'Partly rejected my burnt letter, we hear' i.e. 'reje' (anagram), followed by 'my', then sounds like charred/dee (the letter D).
t_p got there first.

Am I allowed to say Anal Itch Sumo? It looks like it's not just the wrestler's nappy that needs re-arranging.

Re: Tennis Player - Cryptic Clue Thread
Hmmm Rafa would certainly find the ancient art of sumo wrestling a little bit challenging to say the least.
I'd pay good moneyto see it as he endeavoured to keep that thing out of his bum crack whilst attempting to throw down his challenger. Certainly has the physique and low centre of gravity for it too. Sadly Rafa isn't the itchy wrestler I had in mind though.

laverfan I'm right out of any ideas so looking forward to yours.
Looks like we need a few newcomers to the ATP and WTA tours just for the continuity of this thread. Either that or (literally) digging up some very old and obscure names.
